How would you compare overall the two schools?

Comparable, but most notably Chicago whomps Michigan in economics while Michigan crushes Chicago in psychology.

What is your intended major?

I plan to major in biology, but am interested in how different are the overall academic experiences in each school.

I don’t know about the facilities at Chicago, but they are probably nicer than what’s in Ann Arbor. I was in their main bio building with my dad who worked in a lab there 30 years earlier and he said it looks the same as it did when he went there… Not very nice lol

^ Ross new building :D

Chicago students are generally very serious about their academics. They’re very intelligent and very hardworking, whereas the typical Michigan student is more laid-back.

yea seriously… the bio building here and the natural science auditorium are super ghetto.

^hahaha 10char

Chicago does not “whomp” Michigan at anything…nor does Michigan crush Chicago at anything either. Michigan’s Economics department is ranked #12 in the nation. Columbia is #10 in Econ, Cornell and Duke are around #20. Those are all excellent Economics departments. No matter how great Chicago is in Econ, it does not whomp a top 20 Economics department. Same goes for Psychology. Yes, Chicago’s Economics is definitely stronger than Michigan’s, and Michigan’s Psychology department is stronger than Chicago’s, but both universities are among the very best in both of those disciplines.

As for Biology, both universities are excellent (top 20), but neither is world class (top 5 or so).

Agnosticbimbo, you cannot go wrong with those two schools. I recommend you pick the school that appeals more to you. Where do you feel you would be happier?

Lorch is ghetto. Particularly juxtaposed with Ross right next door. Comical.

Is that it?

Have you seen the Undergraduate Science Bldg, Life Science Institute, Biomedical Science Research Bldg?

I’d like to add Comp. Science Engineering Building to that as well; it’s amazingly modernized.

“U-M booming
…the sounds of construction echo across the sprawling campus. Nine major buildings have been completed recently or are under construction, with five more prepared to break ground. Coupled with the $108 million purchase of the 30-building, 174-acre former research site of Pfizer Inc., it’s one of the biggest building booms in school history, totaling more than $1.7 billion and adding or renovating 17 million square feet.” [As U-M builds up, MSU cuts back | detnews.com | The Detroit News](http://detroitnews.com/article/20100302/SCHOOLS/3020372/As-U-M-hires-and-builds-up--MSU-cuts-back)

U-M has invested significantly in biomedical and life sciences in the last few years.

With these new buildings, we may finally get to witness the Ross school of business being dwarfed in terms of architectural prowess.

The Law school is also pretty impressive!

Oh yeah I forgot about that!

Speaking of new buildings, my program is moving into the new North Quad Academic and Residential Complex this fall. It will be interesting to see how it looks inside! Architecture-wise, I think it will look similar to the Ford School/Weill Hall building.

Love that location tenisghs! How exciting will that be!
