So I'm deciding between Michigan and William and Mary.

How the two compare, generally speaking? Of course Michigan is far larger than WM, and in a different setting.

In what school is it easier to do well in? Is it easier to get that 'A' in one school or the other?

How do the schools compare intellectually?

What school has the better Greek Life and party scene?

I'm trying to decide between the two schools, any help?

Both are great. I would probably recommend visiting the two universities because they are very different. William and Mary is located in a much smaller and quieter locale than Michigan. I think the party scene at both schools will be similar, but Michigan will probably have more options.

Michigan has broader academic choices and bigger sports/party scene. W&M is more intellectual, LAC, more cache/history, much milder winters. Two very different schools.

Swish, I am not sure I would agree with W&M being more intellectual. Michigan has a pretty strong intellectual vibe.

On CC smaller=more intellectual vibe. Michigan is stronger academically.

“Extremism in the defense of Michigan is no vice!” - Jerry Goldwater:)

Lets not get carried away. The OP has an odd yet valid choice between two very different schools. I’ve witnessed the zealotry for Michigan, and while I respect your love of school, lets try to help the OP.

Michigan is a great school, but its not perfect. It will have broader academic choices, better(larger) sports/party scene. W&M has the better intellectual vibe between the two. This is not a choice about quality, but which is better for the OP. Midwest vs South culture/weather, LAC vs Research State U, Big 10 sports vs 1AA football, Ann Arbor vs Williamsburg, 5500 students vs 30,000.

Two good choices. Pick the one you will enjoy the most. Good luck.

W & M is far from perfect too I might add. Too small and limiting and no D1 sports.

swish14, I am confused like the other posters: how is College of William and Mary more intellectual than Michigan? Maybe you should define your metric because, as a graduate student, Michigan has no difficulties attracting top talent, prominent speakers, and guest lectures (for example, renowned sociologist, William Julius Wilson, came to speak at Michigan a few years ago. Today, former U.S. representative, Harold Ford Jr., is speaking at the Ford School. Isn’t that intellectual??).

(I have visited Wililam and Mary several times because I attended my cousin’s graduation there.)

It’s the same old same old tenisghs. Large public universities cannot be intellectual according to many here on CC. Michigan is viewed by many here as simply another large public. I might add that these same people really know very liitle about U-M or Ann Arbor.

It is amazing. If somebody corrects anincorrect statement about Michigan, we are accused of zealotry.

Swish, before you posted your incorrect statement, the only recommendation posted on the Michigan forum was that W&M and Michigan are both great schools. Where was the extremism?

RJ- W&M defeated UVirginia in football, Wake Forest and Maryland in hoops, North Carolina in Baseball, and is ranked in Soccer, Tennis, Lacrosse. So yes, they have D1 sports. Granted it isnt Big 10, but your statement is wrong.

Al- I will concede many things to Michigan, but “intellectual environment” isnt one of them over W&M. Pls focus and stay on topic for the sake of the OP. Pls dont let this devolve into “Michigan is the greatest” rant like so many other threads in this forum. Accept it for what it is. A great midwest research State U flagship.

swish14, please provide evidence that William and Mary is more intellectual than Michigan.

^^^He/she can’t tenisghs. I meant to say the only D1A sport that really matters, football. ;-)

“Accept it for what it is. A great midwest research State U flagship.”

Oh please, enough already. Michigan is a great university PERIOD!

I think he meant that William and Mary caters more to undergraduate teaching than does Michigan.

^^^^Well that was never stated of course. I would most definitely agree with that statement. Of course the great east coast flagship research university in Virginia is UVA.

“Al- I will concede many things to Michigan, but “intellectual environment” isnt one of them over W&M.”

I never said Michigan was more intellectual than W&M. You are the one who claimed W&M is more intellectual than Michigan. I personally think both schools have their own intense intellectual vide.

“Pls focus and stay on topic for the sake of the OP. Pls dont let this devolve into “Michigan is the greatest” rant like so many other threads in this forum. Accept it for what it is. A great midwest research State U flagship.”

Michigan is not regional Swish. Yours is a description of Purdue or Indiana or Iowa. Those are fine schools to be sure, but Michigan is, simply put, a great university. And nobody said Michigan was the greatest. I have yet to read one poster recommend Michigan over W&M…on a Michigan forum no less.

Wow. Michigan people are sensative.

^^At least most of us can spell simple words.

Boy, you told him. Bad spelling on the internet. How humiliating.
