Microbiology

Hey. I recently got admitted into the college of natural and agricultural sciences department and was wondering if microbiology is a weighted major? If anyone knows the answer to my question, please comment below! Thank you.

I just read over the question and saw “weighted”. I meant to ask if microbiology is an IMPACTED major, not weighted. Sorry for the confusing question.

No, Microbiology is not an impacted major at UCR.

Isnt biology an impacted major at UCR though?

Biology, yes. Microbiology, no

How does that work though? They’re in the same department which is natural sciences and agricultural sciences?

Biology and Microbiology may be in the same department and have overlapping classes but they are not the same major. If Microbiology was a concentration under the Biology major, then it would be impacted. Microbiology is a different major. Are you planning to switch into the Microbio major from another major, is this why you are asking if it is impacted?

@GrammyWinner: It looks like Microbiology can be a stand alone major or a specialization track under the Biology major. I would contact a CNAS advisor and ask your questions. I do know the Biology Major is impacted not accepting any major changes petitions. See links below:::

Here is a link to the Micro BS 4 year course schedule: http://cnasstudent.ucr.edu/majors/Micro%20undergraduate%20brochure%202015%2012.4.15.pdf

This link is for the Biology major with new specialized tracks:

Alright, thank you so much! @Gumbymom

Actually from the links you posted isn’t Biological Sciences “impacted” not Biology?

They appear to be different majors:

OP asked about the Microbiology major being impacted. Microbiology as a stand alone major is not impacted. Biological Sciences with a Microbiology specialization track is impacted. Just trying to figure out which Microbiology the OP was asking about so that is why I linked both.
