We just moved our D into her dorm and the rented micro fridge was already delivered to her room. It was so old, dented, scratched and dirty, I have ordered it to be picked up again. The rental price cost as much to buy a new fridge and they are going to charge me $40 to pick up!! It is appalling.
We did the combo micro fridge as well, we put in our order this summer and when D moved in on the 14th it was in the room and all set up. While there were some scratches on the outside, nothing major and it was clean and worked well. Sorry to hear your experience wasn’t as good. I do recall there was a fee to return the unit that increased the later you waited to cancel. We used the company who’s information was provided to us during orientation.
IU seems to be pretty good about allowing larger minifridges, like 3.1 cf. DD1’s roomie had a 4 cf. A decent 3.1 and microwave is around $150 total, and you get to keep it after your student is done. I don’t know what they’re charging but if you’re in an elevator dorm a cart is all you need. If you need to drag it all the way up Collins or Ashton… well…
