"Consume more than three amps per
hour of electricity when running and power
110-120 volts, 60 cycle AC; 360 watts."

That's what I have to work with! Now, If I'm reading it right, it's saying it cannot exceed 360 watts, yes? If so- do they make microwaves that don't exceed that? The lowest wattage I can find is 600...

[joke] A microwave with wattage that low is called an Easy-Bake Oven. They're in the toy aisle next to the mini cupcake mix. [/joke]

But, erm, seriously- they probably have that rule just so you can't bring microwaves. I don't know if you'll be able to get one with wattage that low, but it doesn't sound very probable.

If you want to risk it- do what lethargy suggests. You might get away with it, and you might not. Figure out what the punishment would be and see if you want to bring one anyway- I probably wouldn't... Are there kitchens in the dorms with microwaves that you can use?

I really don't think that they will check, housing just doesn't want this gigantic electricity bill, they have to put a standard somewhere..

I knew there are other things like restrictions on fridge sizes, and only having one fridge. Many people in my dorm had 2 fridges in their room.

I wished there was a kitchen-type setup in the dorms, but there isn't anything like that at all...

And ya, there are definite restrictions on the fridge size and # per dorm room too, but those aren't near as strict at the microwave!

And also, I think part of it might be the electricity bill, but the other is probably their partnership with ValetToday where you can get a "MicroFridge" from them....

Well, I think it actually has to do with the tax on the fuses. If you run too much electricity on one fuse you'll blow it out, and the microfridges prevent that by shutting off the power to the fridge while the microwave is running.

My school says that the only microwave you can have is the microfridge, but it's really not bad because I think each lounge has a microfridge and each dorm has a kitchen, so there are other facilities to use if you don't put one in your room.

I imagine there's microwaves out there that are 350W since I think I had one while I was in college that was 400W to fit under my school's guidelines.
