So my school is on the trimester system and by the time regular decision rolls around, first trimester grades are already set since first tri ends around november. I noticed that MIT requires a mid year report, but my first tri senior grades are already recorded in the transcript that I sent in... I talked to my counselors and apparently my school doesn't do mid year grade reports for regular decision...

Should I send in a note or something to explain this?

As Matt McGann explains here MIT Admissions | Blog Entry: "For EA Deferred Students", you can download the mid-year grade report form from the MIT website. I suggest that you download the form, give it to your school counselor, and let the counselor submit the mid-year report your school commonly sends to colleges and universities (i.e., the first trimester grades). Even though MIT already has these grades on the transcript in your application file, following these steps will ensure that your school officially confirms those grades as meeting the mid-year reporting requirement.

Winter break ends at the beginning of January. I just asked around and my school apparently has a separate mid-year report process that I have to go through sometime around Jan/Feb.
