what will admissions officers think when there is a drop in rank in the midyear report? because most of my easier and required classes are in the first semester, while most of my hard classes are in the second semester of my senior year. so right now, i am ranked 2, but there is a good chance ill drop a few rankings because of the easier classes. but the second semester i will be taking 5 classes instead of the usual 4. the extra one will be outside of school at a college. so what will colleges think (especially the ivies)? and would i count as a salutorian anymore? thanks

Since you’re taking more courses, your rank will probably go down, so I think colleges are expecting it. Don’t worry about it. As for whether you’ll stay salutorian, that depends on your rank.

Midyear Report only includes grades through first semester.

I don’t think they’ll be like “this is great stuff!” but they won’t rejected you automatically about it. I think it will be the thing that gets you accepted or rejected from your choice (unless you got straight F’s). So I wouldn’t worry about it. They understand that these happen, but just know that they would expect your counselor not to check off the box of “most rigorous schedule” in his/her reccomendation.
