I'm looking at the mid-year report deadlines on the Wellesley application check website, and it says that mid-year grades need to be in by Friday. It also says, "We will expect your mid-year grades as soon as they are available from your school. If your school operates on a trimester system, we are aware that these grades may not be available until later in the process." My school does operate on the trimester system and second trimester grades will likely not in the hands of the admissions department until--yikes--the first week of March.

So, what is is exactly that Wellesley needs? First tri grades? Second tri grades? Should I be concerned that my grades won't make the deadline?

The admissions office understands that each school is on a different system. If a school runs on a quarter or semester system, then have your second quarter or first semester grades in as soon as they come out (after the deadline or not, it doesn’t particularly matter). Trimester grades are a bit tricky; definitely turn in the first trimester grades. I doubt second trimester grades will really be considered unless you are applying regular decision.

Okay. Thanks, welles10. I’m applying Early Evaluation, and the first trimester grades should already be in the hands of the admissions office. I talked to my school’s counselor, and she said she’ll send the mid-year report form with another copy of the first tri grades, and then send the second trimester grades as soon as they’re available.

She also said that Wellesley e-mailed her the other day to ask her to talk about me a little more. Does anyone know if this is normal procedure, or should I be reading something into it?

Hmm… no idea. I would take it as a good sign though; at least the adcom is interested enough about you to contact someone. (Though in my case, if the adcom called my school’s guidance counselor, she would have had no idea who I was – large school: 1 counselor for over 600 students). Good luck!!
