The mid-year report--yikes.

My school is on the trimester system. The first trimester ended at Thanksgiving, and the second will end the last week of March. Smith says that the RD mid-year report deadline is February 2, which could put me in a bit of a difficult situation.

I've done some research on this, but have been unable to find a definitive answer. Does Smith want my first tri or second tri grades with the mid-year report? Will they not consider my application until second tri grades come in? Should I camp out at my counselor's office so I can beg her to send my transcript the day the second tri grades are available? (;))

Any advice would be deeply appreciated.

Contact your admissions counselor at Smith.

You should call the admissions office to be sure, but they will probably want your first
tri-mester report. By the time the second tri-mester report gets to them, admission decisions will be all but be in the mail.

They will eventually want your second tri-mester report, just as for semester students they ask for their final grade report (admissions decisions can and will be rescinded if you don’t complete your school in a satisfactory manner. Little slips are okay, big slips are not) but probably not for consideration with this application, unless you get waitlisted (God forbid).

But make sure you ask someone who works for Smith, just to be sure.

Okay. Thanks, both of you. I’ll shoot my regional admissions counselor an e-mail with my query and have my school counselor send out the mid-year report form with my first tri grades. She said she’ll also send out my second tri grades as soon as they’re available, just in case.

Now, back to writing that “Why Smith” essay… if only they let me write a hundred “hundred words” about why I want to attend…
