Mid Year reports ( i know I know! )

SO heres the deal, i got 5 bs and an A and am applying to cornell norhtwestern, lehigh, tufts, wahu and JHU. The thing is i got sick with cold and cough and had bouts of fever during the month of october and a tthe same time i had the SAT, TOEFL, ACT and SAT 2s on 4 consecutive saturdays. SO in between all this i kind of didnt do well in some of my school tests which turned out to be real crucial ones for the quarter resulting my grades to drop down to 88’s and 85’s.

So my question is should i write to these universities and tell them my situation or shall i just let it be? How important is midterm to regular decision applicants?

One hand i think they would think i am making excuses on the other i also fear the fact they would think i have been slacking off which I have not!!

You might talk to the counselor who sends the midyear report and ask if he or she could mention your illness during that period, along with your busy schedule. While it might sound like making excuses if you wrote it, coming from a counselor it might be more effective.

For the schools you are applying to, I think an explanation could be helpful.

bump!!!!!!

Ok:

Midyear grades are very important for the schools which you are applying to because your grades will show whether you are continuing an upward trend while taking the most rigerous courses your school offers

The reality is 5B's and 1A on your mid year report for the schools you are applying to does not look good (88's were not stellar grades to begin with for these types of schools, but you already know that).

The international pool is extremely stiff and there are going to be many people with much better midyear reports than the one which you will be presented (but you knew that also)

Susan gave you the best advice. I don't know what else you want to hear. If you write the note you come off as whining because many students have overcome worse without a slide in grades. talk to the counselor, she if s/he can advocate for you.

If I were you I would not continue to bump the subject because you may get some answers that what really won't do any thing but tear you down (and you really don't need that)

Hmm interesting, I am taking IB courses hope that helps. and 88 is not good? what are you talkign about? in IB classes a 92-93 is considered really good!
