Middle Earth vs. Mesa Court

hahaha i like the reference to HP. but that is correct. all halls are co-ed except rivendell in middle earth (all girls) and only ME has the co-ed suites

oo well i dont watch harry potter but i get u lol
i have actually gone to visit mesa once so i understand what ur saying

thanx

im just gonna dorm there :]

it just clicked into my head.

so u guys are telling me that if i dorm in middle earth, my nextdoor roomates can\or will be girls…!

well, not necessarily. there are still single-gender suites. it’s just that in middle earth you actually have the POSSIBILITY (and/or option, whatever word you prefer) of that happening.

so if they give u the option, is it guaranteed that u can get co-ed suits?

on your housing preference form you have to specify wanting a co-ed suite but i dont know the guarantee rate… but i picked it and i got it

oooooo i c
so do u recommend middle earth and y?

we can change housings at the end of every quarter? right? such as moving from ME to Mesa, and from theme to theme housing?

Since its too late to edit my post, I doulbe post for a question.
Should I choose ‘either community’ which later i can decide one is best for me because I like the themes ME offers, but I like the dorms in mesa. I dont know if this question sounds dumbs

@baller: i picked mesa and didn’t get it which is why i’m in ME. i like middle for the food and how i don’t get lost all the time (i know if i lived in mesa, i would know my way around but it is seriously big). i liked mesa for the rooms and proximity to claire trevor though

@wille: you can’t change housing communities… whatever room you get is where you will be living the whole year unless you have roommate problems and someone has to move, etc.

if i remember correctly on the form you can say which community is your first choice but they will not offer you a spot in both communities

ok
is ME a hotel like struture…

@baller
ME is sorta like a hotel, since the lot of the community is not as big as Mesa, they condensed the housing like a hotel. Like someone posted earlier, its like how harry potter dorms in hogwarts. Just google “harry potter staircase”, you’ll see like an interior preview of ME. Heck, google “uci middle earth” to see this yourself if the buildings are like hotels.

nooo it is not. i would consider that true for phase 3 buildings because they are most modern but like i said, phase 1/2 have a lot more character to them and they are not formatted the same way

whoops my bad, I’m just saying based by what I could research about the housing communities online.

^ sorry i was directing that more towards baller. but yeah i would say that the buildings in ME probably have more regularity as far as the hallways and stuff but it isn’t exactly like a hotel. some of the modern mesa halls are like that… well not exactly the same but it is a hallway that breaks into two clusters on each side, or whatever, rather than just hallways.

Man, I made the decision between Middle and Mesa but I have th now decide on my hall…

Does your choice in halls really matter?

well you have better control over the halls you can get in mesa because you can actually pick the specific halls, right? so presumably you would have visited and like the halls for some reason. your hall could influence the size of your room (if it is more modern or for whatever reason), etc. the themes are really for uniting people with similar interests because your programs are based on those themes. (not sure where i mentioned this but in ME, the i-team did a contest for egg dropping off the balcony)

to jen
i dont understand when u say “phase” and “half” lol
how many rooms r there per hall in mesa…ME…

If one house theme has an event or somewhat workshop, can other people, like those from other house theme/cluster or other communities, come by for those events. That would suck if its too exclusive from other theme houses.

phase is basically when the halls (buildings) were built. in ME, 1 is oldest and 3 is newest. the same goes for mesa but i think they even have a phase 4. you can’t pick the phase you want.

(the way i’m going to explain this now is for ME because i dont really know about mesa)
the themes overlap halls, so let’s say, for interpersonal relationships theme, there are halls in all three phases that are part of this theme. the older halls are smaller and have less people, maybe like 40. and the newest ones have around 80 people. i don’t know the # of bedrooms but in my own suite, there are 9 or 10 rooms, and i think the single-gender suites have maybe one or two fewer rooms. the modern mesa buildings might be bigger than ME ones, but someone from mesa will have to confirm this.

i don’t think the events are exclusive but i haven’t been to many. it’s more like you wouldn’t know it was going on unless you happened to come across it (like me seeing the egg drop) or unless you had a friend in that theme, because usually the events are just advertised in the specific halls. but if it’s something like a competition, then your participation might be limited if you don’t live in that themed hall. this also assumes that the event is something outside… if it’s something taking place WITHIN the hall, it might just be up to the RA if s/he cares if you stay
