Middlebury and Vassar (for Pre-med, Economics, Spanish, Music, and Neuroscience)

I'm really interested in attending Middlebury and sent two additional recommendation letters, an inquiry from my school counselor, updates to my application, and additional essays, all after being waitlisted. Now, though, I'm starting to question my decision.

I've been waitlisted at Bowdoin as well, but they said they're just filling the demographic distribution through the waitlist (the adcom said this directly... as an Asian american male living in Cali I'm sad), and Dartmouth is probably closing off all waitlisted applicants.

In terms of Economics, which college would you say is stronger? I know Midd is the BEST in terms of foreign languages, which is kind of comforting since I want to continue my study of Spanish in college. I think Vassar is stronger in terms of the music program, but I don't really care as long as practice rooms are available for Midd students (are they?). In terms of neuroscience, both schools are strong, but I'm not sure to what extent.

Also, most importantly, how well-established is the pre-med track in Midd? Are the advisors helpful? Are there any "weed-out" classes for pre-meds (I'm assuming a big no, considering it's a small LAC)?

I'm sorry for spamming, but both schools are just truly amazing and I'm kind of torn right now. I don't want to look back in the future and regret my decision to either take myself off the waitlist or reject Vassar in favor of Midd.

I’m confused. Where did you send your deposit? If I’m reading this right, you’ve sent your deposit to Vassar but are on Midd’s waitlist. Is that correct?

Yes I am!

I wouldn’t get yourself worked up about this decision unless/until you get the call from Middlebury. The chances of getting in off the waitlist are actually pretty slim. Some years they take quite a few, others years not so much. As you know, it all depends on yield. Here are some stats:

2013: 1,705 waitlisted, 0 admitted.
2012: 1,679 waitlisted, 78 admitted.
2011: 2,114 waitlisted, 20 admitted.
2010: 1,958 waitlisted, 134 admitted.
2009: 1,527 waitlisted, 42 admitted.
2008: 1,812 waitlisted, 49 admitted.
2007: 1,231 waitlisted, 0 admitted.
2006: 1,200 waitlisted, 54 admitted.
2005: 950 waitlisted, 38 admitted.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure I’m just staying with Vassar for now. The more I reseach into each school, the more I think Vassar’s a better fit, since its political climate tends to be quite liberal.

Thanks for responding though  I think I’m going to delete this thread, though I’m not sure how I’m going to go about doing that

It really doesn’t sound like you have much of a choice.

Middlebury isn’t exactly a conservative bastion.

You cannot delete a thread.

Yeah but I wanted to get off the waitlist just in case I took someone else’s spot (I’m not assuming it, it’s just as a precautionary measure).

I do understand that, but the overall vibe of the campus is different. I am aware top univeresities and colleges tend to have a liberal climate, but the degree is different.

And oops.

Just read this on the Middlebury website

the College had originally planned to admit at least 50 students from the wait list this year. With the high number of students who have decided to matriculate at Middlebury, the College has accepted only 10 from the wait list and does not expect to admit many more, if any. - See more at: <a href=“Middlebury News and Announcements”>Middlebury News and Announcements;

LOL turns out I proably wouldn’t have been accepted anyways. Thanks for the update though @urbanslaughter‌

Will the admin please delete this thread since it’s kind of irrelevant at this point, or not, I guess it doesn’t matter
