Early Decision: Vassar vs. Bowdoin

Hello! So I'm in a huge predicament as of right now. I'm really struggling to decide between applying Early Decision to Vassar or to Bowdoin. My changes are reachy for both if I apply regular; I have a 32 ACT score, 3.77 gpa, and my extra-curriculars include two full summers of volunteer work in Latin America (heard of AMIGOS?) being in the school's musicals, captain of two clubs, cross country etc. I'm also applying from AZ and am Filipino

Anyways, in college I'm looking to go on a pre-med track, but I really want to study in as many area, cultural, language programs as I can. That being said, I'm looking for a college that is open to multi-disciplinary studies and that has strong programs in each of these. I am also looking for a very intellectual but still friendly and eccentric environment as far as people go. I love both of these colleges, but I am leaning towards Bowdoin. That being said, my chances aren't great, even if I apply early. I also wouldn't want to lose a more likely chance applying to Vassar.

If anybody who attends or has attended either of these could give me some advice regarding application strategy, which would be a better fit, or any personal input whatsoever, it would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks and happy holidays!

jessicacch- a dad here with the last of 3 just getting into college. The common advice is to put aside your ‘chances’ and only apply ED to the school that you most prefer, period. You’ve already made that choice from my view by saying “I am leaning towards Bowdoin” so my advice is to stick with your gut reaction & go for it. Get on that Bowdoin bandwagon & write some great essays, making sure your passion for why you prefer Bowdoin shines through. Good luck.

Why are you only restricting yourself to Bowdoin and Vassar? If you’re looking for a LAC, Midd sounds like a choice that better matches your interests.

That being said, keep researching and apply to the school you most prefer. You’re in decent standing for all LAC ED application rounds.

I suggest research Ed statistics for each school. There is a definite applicable strategy. Look at your school preferences, your honest chances, and the Ed stats for the school (specifically how much does the given school give a benefit to an Ed applicant. Then decide. For example, I would not apply Ed to a school which gives no or little Ed app boost. You might change your mind about your preferences. I might apply Ed to a school which is a reach and I feel I need the ed boost. Wish you well.
