Middlebury College

Hey CCers.

I am a high school student wishing to attend Middlebury College. Unfortunately, I have been unable to go up to Vermont and actually visit the school. I had done my research via the web and have found a lot of info. I like everything about Middlebury but my preference for this school is based only on sources which do not reveal the specifics an actual student may know.

What about Middlebury made you choose this school over another LAC? To me, many LACs seem to have similar curriculum, atmospheres, etc.

Likewise, how is the liberal arts curriculum at Midd diff than the other liberal arts curriculum at other LAC?

How are the students at Middlebury like? Laid back, wild, studious, so on

Also, last question, can I take a language when I am a regular undergrad? I want to study Chinese so can I include it in my curriculum??? Or do I have to go to a language school and study full-on, hardcore? I am not intending on majoring in a language

Hi ComeGraduation,

I’d move this thread to the Middlebury forum - you’ll get more people who are current students/parents/alumni and know much more about the school. Hope this helps!

Can an admin move this thread for me? Or do I repost it?

I can’t tell if this ever got moved or answered, but you can definitely take Chinese as a “regular” undergrad. It’s a great department. Some students choose Middlebury because of it’s strength in languages which spills over into its excellent international studies/politics majors. Others are lured by the science facilities or the excellent environmental studies program. Also, students seem love taking one course intensively in january term----many other LAC’s have this but quite a few don’t. Type of student is more difficult to say—quite studious, fairly laid back, quite a few athletes.
