Middlebury RD 2013

That's just it.. it's a student X.. not a specific applicant name. And our school doesn't list average GPA for admissions-- probably because we don't weight grades nor do we rank students. But either does Midd's common data set. Basically I am just privy to SAT or ACT high/low/average scores of accepted students from our school, the number of kids who applied in the last two years, the number of kids accepted and the number who attended. And I was just wondering are those high/low/average scores from son's school or are these just the common data set not specific to our school's applicants?

For example: Our naviance lists (at the high end of the middle 50%) ACT as 32 and SAT as 1480 (math and critical reading only). Common Data on Midds website lists 33 ACT but also has a 1480 for SAT. So I can't tell if these are just the college's averages slapped on the school's naviance page.

And as long as I am obsessing over numbers (so NOT my strong suit), while I can look at Midds common data set and see that 34% of applicants supply the ACT.. is there a place where it says how many of those who only submitted ACT's were actually admitted? They don't give the % of kids who submitted both.

I can look at scattergrams as well.. but only in the GC office... which is very student specific (without the use of names), and it's pretty easy to separate the athletes and.or legacies as they are usually green dots (accepted) that are clearly not nestled among the rest. However, this is less true for a Middlebury than it is for a Dartmouth where I can almost attach the exact name to the scores! Not that this kid didn't offer something special, but it just wasn't his academic prowess. :)

Oh, I guess I am talking about "Scattergrams." I forgot what they were called!! (Selective memory!!). Our Scattergrams show GPA and exact test scores, too, so you can pretty much figure out the exact student from the scattergram.

My Naviance says the same thing as yours for the Middlebury scores (high end of 50% ACT of 32 and SAT of 1480) so those numbers must be from Middlebury and not the individual high school.

A new number for you to contemplate: Last year, according to the CDS, Midd admitted 14 % of the women who applied and 20 % of the men who applied. Be glad you have a son!!

And based on the schools to which your son is applying, he has plenty of academic prowess to go around! He will be successful wherever he goes.

how do u guys know Middlebury promised to post decision on sat 8 am??

It's on the website.

Yep.. more girls apply than boys. I noted that too. However, the ratio of girls to boys still leans to the girls side -- again, a good reason to be a boy at Midd. :)

modadunn - try 10 applicants over the past 4 years, and only 1 was waitlisted (rest were rejected). and i know at least 3 people (including myself) who have applied this year. yikes! middlebury just doesnt like us haha

but ah i cant wait until saturday now!

can someone start a new thread for saturday where we can all share our results? just a decisions thread, no extra gabbing (so it's all nice an consolidated). does someone have the template thing saved somewhere so we can all copy and paste the same thing?

if not, i'll go dig for it, but if someone else already knows where to find it, i think we should start the decisions thread.

I'm so excited to hear from them! only a few more dayyys

Mine are nicely spaced: Duke on Thursday, Midd on Saturday, Cornell+Dartmouth on Tuesday, and the rest I don't know.

Mine are too...kind of. Wesleyan and Williams on Friday, Midd Saturday, Dartmouth, Cornell, Brown, and Columbia on Tuesday...the rest are whenever in the mail, I guess.

I think the decisions only thread is a good idea. However, don't start it UNTIL decisions are out. Otherwise there are sure to be AhHHHH's and URGHHHH's all over the place until decisions are out. And I will have to wait until S decides to tell me!!!

Does anyone want to further stress themself out? I just looked at acceptance rate numbers and it looks like Middlebury is about the 20th most difficult college or university to get into in the country. Good luck to all (including myself)...

Hippipolla.. In what part of the country do you reside?

AvantTao -- are you just now figuring this out? :)

I knew its acceptance rate was low, but I never did all of the math. Now I wish I never did... :(

Sigh. I got my Carleton decision today and I was waitlisted.

Wow..I haven't looked at college confidential in a while but since decisions will be out soon for all of you guys...I just wanted to say good luck..and if you don't get into Midd you will find a school where you will be happy. I was waitlisted two years ago...decided to go to Colorado College and then in the summer was offered a position at Midd...I declined as my excitement had grown for Colorado....I have never looked back! I always remember my college counselor saying to me in HS that after all is said and done, most kids are happy no matter where they go if they go with the right attitude....so i'd just like to pass that advbice on to all of you...for those that get in..congrats...for those that don't...get over it quickly and change those gears fast....there is too much living to dwell on it...you'll all end up where you belong!

aw, flyboy, those are nice words. and very wise.

modadunn - i live in MA, about a half-hour outside of Boston, and i go to a public school (but the kids' stats that i saw on naviance were top applicants)

and yeah, i think a decisions thread would be great - & useful for those looking to apply next year

Hoppipolla... I don't doubt the stats at all. I was just wondering if perhaps it was a NE thing in that there are an overabundance of applicants from that part of the country. While that doesn't truly explain when so many are being denied, I would have been more shocked had you lived in the state of washington or oregon for example. Honestly, I don't know if that is taken into considertion or that a lot of weight is placed on applicant's place of origin, but I am thinking it doesn't do you favors to be from New England.

But can I just say.. I absolutely love the Boston area. So much history and so much fun all in one place.

2.5 more days - i am losing it!! AAH! i love all of you - we've become one big angsty family.
