My dad is retired navy (enlisted) and was wondering if he could utilize the midshipman store? I have received an appointment for the class of 2011 and will be at the CVW this coming weekend.

The Mid store doesn't utilize the retired ID Card (The clerk very pointedly explained this to us a couple of weeks ago- saying that the Mid store is not an NEX) but parents can use the Mid parent ID that is issued to shop there. We got to to do the ID card shuffle. Luckily my husband had his Mid parent card, as I had left mine in the car after getting on the yard.

As to this weekend, I am not certain. Perhaps he would get a clerk who would let him. Call to find out for sure. Again, this was just our experience the weekend of Feb. 24, 25.

I wouldn't count on your dad being able to use the Mid store, but he can go to the NEX at the Naval Station just across the river from USNA. Your parents will get their shopping card on I-Day and then they can shop till they drop!

He figured that this was only for mids, alumni and parents of mids. Thanks for the info.

If you are going to CVW, I would think your host Mid could take you in there to shop. They would probably have to show their card, but I wouldn't think they would mind.

When we were there for soccer camp, my son wanted to show me where it was (nice stuff!) and they wouldn't even sell us a bottle of water (it was about 1000% humidity that day- exaggeration there, but it was awfully hot). However, not even a bottle of water could be bought without a mid card.

Yeah, when I had a drag last semester, I took him and his parents into the midstore on Friday. They didn't have any problem with it.

If you are a guest of a Mid you can purchase things. If you go in on your own they won't let you buy anything.

What's in the mid store anyway? Is it like a giftshop or like a uniform shop? Would I be able to buy a USNA college sweater at the mid store?

It has everything from grocery type things to clothing to gifts and electronics. It is the Mid's college "bookstore" If you do not have a way to purchase things in the Mid Store the USNA gift shop at the visitors center also has a good selection ot T shirts, golf style etc. BTW with any military ID you get a discount at the Visitor Center gift shop.

There are some very specific regulations for using the Mid Store and they have to be very careful so that they don't lose the privilege of selling items. Remember, everything you purchase at the Mid Store is tax free. Alumni can not generally use the store except for specific weekends (Homecoming). Parents can obtain a "Parent's Card" either I day or Plebe Parent's weekend. With a military ID, I had no problem using the store.

They also have a Visitor's Center that does charge sales tax and many, many items can be purchased there.

The IG had an inspection many moonlights ago and things tightened way up from what I remember.

Just wanted to say that Alumni that are Life members of the USNA Alumni Association CAN shop at the Mid Store if they have a USNAAA card. There are no restrictions on when they can be there either. My husband is a Life Member and I got my own card as a Joint Member for $25.

I have a question concerning the Mid Store and the Gift Shop on campus: I'm scheduled for a candidate visit this coming April 13 and was wondering if I could use my Debit Mastercard there. I remember when I was buying uniforms for Civil Air Patrol at the uniform store at my local air force base, my parents couldn't use their cards because they weren't in the system. Will it be like that as well at the Naval Academy? Should I just bring cash with me during my visit?

I have had no problems using my VisaDebit Card in either the Mid Store or the Visitor Center. My Mid uses his Visa Debit Card in the Mid store all of the time. (it is not a NFCU card either - another banking institution with no ties to the Military)
