Midwest Theatre Audition

I have a question about the MWTA. My D submitted her application and it was accepted. The first email they sent said that we would hear by December 1st (confirming the submission) and the second email they sent (confirming the application/registration was accepted) said that she would hear in one week about her “MWTA experience”. She did not hear back by either date. It was my understanding that if you were one of the lucky few to actually get your application and payment sent in on time, you had an audition slot? Does anyone have any experience with this process that they could share? We are new to all this and trying to help her navigate these waters. Thanks for any info you can provide!

I just checked with my D. She said she got one email (10/15) that her registration was accepted and she would hear in one week more details. But no more emails. I guess she needs to follow up.

@loribelle she sent an email today. I’ll let you know if she hears back. ?

If the application/registration has gone through and acceptance is confirmed, then she has a slot. The key to getting a slot at midwest is getting the application submitted before the slots fill up and the application closes – usually happens within minutes of the application opening. Congratulations!

@loribelle MWTA emailed back and said they are putting together their schedule will email slots by the end of December. @janne006 thank you for the information. That is very exciting for her. Yay!

Happy New Year! Just checking has anyone heard back with their audition slot yet? Application and charge did go through back in October but haven’t received an email with slot yet. Thanks

@MI3rdClosingAct I saw a post on FB that said they had some difficulties and would have the slots out by January 6. ?

D got her audition slot for MWTA today! Yay! We have not done one of these before and we are trying to plan the trip. If she gets a callback, will it happen on the day of her audition or could it be anytime that weekend? Just trying to get her back home ASAP so she misses as little school and tech rehearsals as possible. Thanks for the info!

Callbacks are same-day, at the end of the day (after the dance call).

D finally got her slot time. The email has a link to go to for more info, but the link is broken. They make reference to the resume needing to be “proper format” or she will lose her slot. Does anyone know if this is just standard performance resume or do they have a protocol to follow? We understand you must name the files a certain way, but they also refer to format, so my D just wants to make sure that the actual information/content doesn’t need to be a specific MWTA format. Thanks. She will email if she can’t locate it on the website.

We read it as the file format (jpg for headshot and pdf for resume) and then the files titled with slot number and last name.

@mthldy She got her slot yesterday on the way back to school. Any idea how late they go on Sunday?

@MI3rdClosingAct I don’t know the daily schedule. The only info we received was my D’s slot time and date of her audition. It is my understanding that they do same day callbacks so I am assuming we need to just block out the entire day of D’s audition. Hopefully they post the 2019 agenda soon. ?

A few years ago, my D had a Sunday slot… callbacks were late afternoon/evening. She and her 2 friends that drove together all drove back to school on Monday and missed some classes.

Some schools are fine with kids missing class for summer stock auditions - some are not. Be sure to check

Same as @kategrizz (I think our kids went together). I think S had a Saturday slot with CBs over two days? It is an exhausting process - and scheduling the CBs can be a challenge but it was a great experience.

@mthldy @kategrizz Thank you so much for the information. My D said they do have a link on website 2019 agenda but isn’t active yet. Thanks for the heads up on checking with school. She is a freshman so not expecting much but it will be a great experience for her. I assume like unifieds, parents just find other places to hang as it sounds like it will be very crowded.

@MI3rdClosingAct - @artskids is right - our kids did go together - (and one other) - and no parents accompanied. It is a great experience - I’m fairly certain all three were offered work from their MWTA experience (I think @artskids ultimately booked elsewhere - but my kid booked from MWTA that year) - it was their sophomore year of college.

@MI3rdClosingAct - parents typically don’t attend professional auditions. D traveled to MWTA her freshman year entirely by herself from Western Michigan (Kalamazoo) to St. Louis because her audition day was different from her classmates (first time renting a car, first time checking into a hotel, first time navigating a new city with a GPS, etc.). For other auditions: OTA’s, SETC’s, etc., she has traveled with classmates.

I think my D’s dad will accompany her to this one but he is pretty good about becoming invisible and often just heads out to do his own thing while D takes care of business. She wants company for the trip so he will serve as a travel buddy. ? If your “kid” (seems weird calling them that now) wants you there, you should be there.
