Do midyear reports play a significant role in admission decisions?

I am wondering since my GPA and rank went up a bit after last semester - not too much, but took me from top 3.3 to 2.5% in a class of ~1600.

you are already in the top 5 percent so I dont think it really matters.
Mid year report only affects you when you like get Ds and Cs and stuff.

Showing improvement in your senior year, especially if you have a very hard course load, helps show you are academically qualified. This is not so much because of the incremental increase in rank and overall GPA, but more because your grades are improving at a time when your courses are getting more difficult than ever before. With a rank in the top 3% of a class of 1600, you can relax about whether your academics are good enough - they are.
