Midyear report

Chicago requires a midyear report of grades for all acceptees, as do most schools. This is a really bad question to ask, I know, but how strict is the school about first and second-quarter grades? My first quarter was totally fine, but my second is shaping up to be... somewhat less. Not a total bomb at all, but there could be a C+ or two in classes. This is with a 5-AP schedule and a music elective.

In my nightmares, I see Chicago rescinding my application. Is this a possibility?

Just try to pull up your grades, and don't fret too much. If you slacked off earlier in the quarter there's not much you can do about it now. In all likelihood if you've already been accepted, your acceptance will be pretty safe, provided that you don't start failing your classes and getting arrested. A slight drop in grades is understandable- admissions officers are human.

You'll be fine.

Great! Thanks for the support.

have they realeased the mid year report online yet?

Yes. ten ch

how is it possible that UChicago honestly trusts us to submit it online on own?

I think what Ted O'neill said that students were happy and eager to submit mid-year reports so as to boost their chances. Most kids work through their first semester of senior year in order to at least marginally boost their chances.

Stare decisus (can't spell in latin), but from the mouth of Admissions, the decision stands, you are in you are in you are in.

Though they do ask your high school for an end of year transcript if you enroll - so be honest.

for we who were accepted, the midyear reports suck. because i just want to slack off..but i can't

you can slack off a little. I mean you can't stop showing up to school, but a couple Bs doesn't hurt

a couple.... a lot, all in good fun!

I'm with you, brooke. I was hoping that my second semester will finally bring freedom, but I guess that's not going to happen...even though it would be ridiculous for them to reject an applicant who had not even applied anywhere else...like me.
It seems that this is the only school that does this, though.

U of C is not going to rescind one's admission unless there is a severe drop-off. Many colleges, however, reserve the right to rescind admission for poor senior year performance as well as for other reasons. Every year there are posts (not on the U of C forum) of rescinded offers.

hey i have a question, pretty dumb I guess, but I'm jsut a little confused.

Isn't the Mid-Year Report a report about how you did in your first semester? And if so, then why would that affect you slacking on in the second semester?

Well, they're tlaking about rescinding offers of admission. If you do REAALLLLYYYYY badly in your second semester colleges can rescind their offers of admission, since you have to send your senior grades to Chicago when you decide to enroll.

yes, the mid-year report plays apart of your admissions process

spring grades don't play any part, but should you do poorly enough, an admissions offer could be rescinded.

Stop worrying people, as long as you don't get below a B average you're fine. And chances are it's pretty easy to get a B--so relax!
