So I was deferred from UChicago and applied ED2, and know that a strong mid year report would be extremely helpful. However, I think I may get a B in one of my classes, and I’m concerned that the university might see that as a drop since I have only had As and A-s on my transcript. Does it really have that much of an impact?
And someone else from my school applied to UC via ED2 as well. Would we be compared against one another despite having different majors?
Does ED2 require a mid year report? My ED accepted D is required to submit her mid year report by Feb 1. It’s my understanding that applicants from the same school will be compared to each other. Chicago admits to to the university, not to a specific school or major. I doubt one B will result in being denied, but it will be viewed in the context of your entire application.
My son applied ED2 and self-reported his mid-year which is allowed per instructions (US high school). His counsellor might have also sent in an “official” version. The mid-year is listed on the admissions website as one of the required materials; they don’t qualify that it applies only to certain application plans. They say they won’t penalize if it’s late due to timing (some schools will issue the mid-year after the Feb. 1 deadline) but it seems to be an expected item. Highly doubt they will boot an application that doesn’t include it, but it might hurt more than showing them a B. Keep in mind that if you are like most seniors applying to UChicago, your current load is the most challenging you’ve undertaken to date.
Ditto that they admit to the College as a whole and that one applicant will be compared against the other at the same school (after all, both probably had the same courses and instructors so that comparison is helpful). That doesn’t mean both won’t be accepted. Also, specifiying different majors will probably play some role. If one of you is the one millionth bus. econ. major hoping to join the Class of '23, and the other is Classics, that might make a difference, all else equal
