<p>Guys,</p>
<p>Here's a link to an AMA (ask me anything) on reddit (its an online forum for everything, look it up. It's awesome!!) with a college admissions who does undergrad admissions in a top 100 private research university in the US.
Its basically users posting questions and the counselor answering them. This forum I'm linking to is completely anonymous so the counselor is most likely telling the truth. I think this will interest a lot of you guys.</p>
<p>I'm not sure how linking works here. It's showing all asterisks.
REPLACE all asterisks with "reddit (dot) com"</p>
<p><a href="http://www.***********/r/IAmA/comments/14yj3h/i_work_in_a_college_admissions_office_ama/%5B/url%5D">http://www.***********/r/IAmA/comments/14yj3h/i_work_in_a_college_admissions_office_ama/</a></p>
<p>Please do not ask me to verify anything the counselor has said. I don't work for any admissions, and I wouldn't know.</p>
<p>admins and mods, please remove the post if it's against the rules to post external links to other forums/reddit.</p>
<p>^thanks this is great.</p>
<p>Some Questions and replies are hilarious. Here is an excerpt
Question:
Glad you’re doing this.
1.What will you do if I mail a wrapped piece of my dog’s poo to you?
2.Does it annoy you when your dog licks your nipples?
3.When mailing the decision letters, who licks all the envelopes?
4.Would it be cool if I wrote in my essay that I’m a Nigerian Prince?
5.If I got an award for a hot dog eating contest, should I put it on my application?
Thanks so much!
Reply:
1.as long as it’s not a conspicuous piece of ********, i probably wont notice. i dont have the time to really check everthing.
2.nope
3.usually just me, if i’m unsure i’ll send it to a committee.
4.the purpose of an essay is to tell us something about yourself which we dont already know. however, i’d caution against using your essay to explain why you’ve got bad grades one year. find another way to tell us that…usually there’s a section on an application for other comments, notes, etc. or just e-mail us!
5.awards and honors usually tell us you’re engaged in other things outside of school, so they look good, but they’re not a golden ticket. these days, everybody’s got them…</p>

<p>Your post is misleading, if you compiled it yourself. The answers you posted were for a completely different set of questions. for example, the first reply (#1) is to a question about what happens when students lie in an application.</p>

I didn’t make up those questions. I copy-pasted them exactly given in the website, but i overlooked this sentence by the counselor : “i answered these 5 questions before the poster changed all 5 of his questions.”.</p>
