Military Transfer Questions

I posed this in the general transfers forum and then realized there was a school specific forum.

Hello All,

I apologize if this information has been covered repeatedly, but my search through the forums did not quite provide the info I would like.

I am currently a Sergeant actively serving in the US Army. I will end time of service in 90 days and am looking at going to UT-Austin. I have already applied and met most requirements needed for the Sophomore transfer route. I am currently waiting on grades to post from this past semester to bump my 29 credit hours to 36. I am holding a 3.9 GPA but am worried about my extra curricular activities since I have been in the Army since HS graduation. I applied to the college of natural sciences-Computer Science. Will being a non-commissioned officer and Afghanistan veteran help my chances of admission?

Thanks in advance for any advice and your time.

Worried about extra curricular activities? I believe that being an Afghanistan veteran trumps any extracurricular activity anyone else can use. And since UT cares about GPA the most, a 3.9 should get you in no big deal. I don’t think you should even be worried about it. Also, Thank you for your service.

Much appreciated pjLloyd. The fear of the unknown I guess is killing me.

Sometimes extracurriculars are scrutinized as a means to gauge your aptitude for a certain field. Other times they’re examined as a general means to gauge your character. Your application is best described by the latter case, and as pJLloyd mentioned, there are few experiences as compelling as being a US Army Sergent. Echoing pJLloyed again, with a 3.9 you should be a shoo-in.

And of course, thank you for your service.
