My daughter is concerned because a class for which she registered only has a few people in it so far. (I think it says 3/30). How many people need to register for a class before it gets cancelled? Should she be actively looking for other options?

I don’t know what the # is, and there is a lot of registration still to go (lots will change during open enrollment), but yes, it would be a hood idea to be looking for a replacement just in case.

One more student has registered for the class…up to 4 now.

@Pancaked: By “open registration”, do you mean the period in July? Is that open to everyone, not just freshmen? Do you think that this might be a class that was not on the schedule when upperclassmen registered in the spring, since it seems to have only freshmen in it?

My daughter is looking at other options, but of course, they have filled up in the meantime.

Yes, Open Enrollment begins July 23 and is open to all undergraduates-- it will be the first opportunity for upperclassmen to change classes since originally enrolling in early April.

It’s possible that this course was added recently. Seems unlikely, but certainly possible. What is the name of the course?

Your daughter may want to do a little plug for the course-- When open enrollment (or whenever the next enrollment windows is for freshman) approaches, she may want to make a post in the Class of 2018 FB group as a little advertisement for the course. There will be a lot of first years thinking about adding or switching courses.

It’s a history class - 100 level - Latin American History. It’s a pretty specific course, but seems like it would be interesting.

Nothing to add to this discussion, but just wanted to say hi to you, MImama … we are from MI, and my D graduated from Vandy in 2011. There aren’t too many Michiganders at Vandy!

@kelsmom: Thanks for the greetings! My D wanted to be unique, and has had several people here ask where Vanderbilt is. At a local scholarship interview, they asked “Is that a good school?”

Where is your D now? Did she come back to Michigan?

My D also wanted to be unique. All her friends went to UM, and she didn’t even apply there.

She stayed in Nashville for a year after graduation and was hired by a Nashville-based consulting company. She can live wherever she wants because she’s on the road every week. She decided she is really a midwest girl, so she moved to Chicago 2 years ago and loves it there.

Not enough people registered for the class - it has been cancelled. My D is now scrambling to find something with openings that fits in her schedule.

Bummer - but there are a lot of great classes, and I am sure something will work out for her. If she isn’t especially excited about her choices, have her pick the best - then find a class or two she really wants that are full & watch to see if anything opens up.
