I have about two weeks left to make my decision, but it is hard to choose between these two schools.

Madison would cost around $4000 more a year.
I want to major in either finance, MIS, business, etc (not sure).
I was accepted into Minnesota's Carlson business school. If I go to Madison, I would have to apply for admittance into their business school after freshman year. If I didn't get in, I would probably go for economics.

Any insights, comments, suggestions? I'm trying to look at the big picture (job opportunities after graduation, education level, internship opportunities, etc).

Congrats on having two really great options. I do not know about Madison, but Minneapolis is loaded with Fortune 100/500 companies that recruit at U of MN.

Carlson is better than the UW Business school, but UW is a slightly better school overall. Since you were accepted into Carlson, can go to the U of M for cheaper AND have access to the big city and fortune 500 companies here, I think you should come here.

Radical - no offense, but you’re a bit biased and partially wrong. UW overall is better, yes, but their Business school also ranks ahead of Minnesota overall. I’m still deciding, but I think being directly admitted into Carlson mighht be the deciding factor for me.

Honestly, I don’t think companies will really care more or less about a degree from the School of Business at Madison or at Carlson. My brother graduated a couple years ago from Carlson with a degree in MIS, and he’s been working at General Mill’s ever since as a Programmer Analyst; in other words, he’s very well-off (not an exaggeration). Although RadicalCar does sound a bit like one of those brochures, he is not incorrect that Minneapolis does house a significant amount of well-known companies that look specifically for graduates from the U of M, and anyone from here would say we’re better than Wisconsin anyways (truth hurts). Although I’m sure UW-Madison has a similar standing in the region, I don’t know enough about it. Because my brother had an internship opportunity that led him to a stable job while attending Carlson, I guess I’m biased too. Personal preference is what it comes down to overall. Hope this helps.

I’ve heard good things about both programs, and I don’t think one is significantly above the other. You will probably find good post-grad opportunities either way. Unless you’re really set on Madison, I think Carlson would be the better choice. You’re already in and won’t have to worry about being admitted, and it’s cheaper (not that much by college standards, but not that little either). Good luck with you decision.
