Minor advice (PRE-MED)

Hello,
I’m a nutritional science major and junior standing. I paint as a hobby (i’ve been doing it for a while) and want to minor in Art. But there are alot of classes i would have to take and in order for me to graduate on time i need to take about 25 hours per semester (which is VERY unrealistic) (and this is not including the summer and winter semesters). Without my minor, i have to take 15-18 hours per semester, which i am used to.
Although i am minoring in art for my own interest, is it something big med schools will see on my transcript? 7 art courses to be exact.
If not a minor, what else can i do to show my interest in art? volunteer at an art studio? or a art kids camp?
Thanks.

There is no reason to over schedule yourself to get a minor. It will not move the needle on any med school application. Take art classes when you can fit them in and if you want to and have time I expect you can find ways to use your talents on campus (making posters for clubs, helping with scenery for shows, art shows on campus etc.).

Medical school adcomms will see everything that appears on your transcript.

Will any adcomms care that you have an art minor? No. Will you receive extra attention for having an art minor? No. Will it influence their decision to invite you to interview? No.

Why do you need feel that you need to demonstrate your interest in art? Is it somehow going to form the cornerstone of your med school application?

Fine arts classes are very time consuming. Do not under-estimate the amount of time studio requires.

I suggest you don’t over-schedule yourself by committing to an art minor. If you want to get into the studio–maybe enroll in one studio art class if you have the time. Or take private lessons. Or join a club for aspiring artists on campus. Or simply work on your canvases and try submitting your work for inclusion in student exhibit or a juried local show.

Get involved in art-based ECs if that’s your passion, but don’t do an activity just because it might look good on a med school application.

IIRC, you have some issues with lower science course grades, and some retakes. Frankly, you would be better off concentrating your efforts on your actual major than picking up an additional bit of course requirements for a minor.

If your intention is to apply to med school I would recommend focusing all your efforts in your premed classes so that your repair your gpa. You are ignoring the situation you are in rather than trying to correct it. A minor in art is not going to help you in regards to getting into med school.

Given your GPA issues–one thing you need to consider before enrolling in a painting class—

Not only are art classes extremely time-consuming, the grading is subjective and it’s often very difficult to earn As.
