Minorities at Lehigh

Do minorities feel out of place or excluded at lehigh? The school is known for being predominantly white and im worried about the social atmosphere as a African American

We are from a completely different part of the country and I was worried my son and our family would feel out of place at an East coast school. I was surprised how warm and welcoming everyone was.

In my son’s freshman year dorm group of 12ish kids there was one guy and two girls that were African American. All three are in fraternity and sorority houses now - just like my son. The freshman dorm group has split up a bit by going to different houses (and some choosing not to pledge) but they all still remain very close and do lots of activities together.

Lehigh kids seems to be very welcoming, social kids who are very passionate and driven in what they do.

I just posted that I thought Lehigh kids were social. Maybe that really is the right word. My son was not involved in his high school. He didn’t attend events and he wasn’t involved in any after school activities. He had a great group of guys, most who are now engineering majors, who hung out and played video games. So I wouldn’t have said my son was super social when he was applying to Lehigh. But, since he has been at Lehigh he has become much more comfortable reaching out and becoming part of different groups at Lehigh.
