Minorities at W & M

I met a young woman who attends a different college in VA who is a URM. She said she loved her college but would never want to stay or work in VA. She found the people more racist and didn't like being off her campus. She now works in NYC.
Anyone have any experience with being a minority on campus?

Virginia is truly diverse state. Racism is alive and well, depending where you are; with whom you associate. Virginia has old Southern roots that die hard. That said, not everyone in VA is a redneck. Largest Naval facility in the world in Norfolk, VA. Many metropolitan areas.........many minorities.

Under the recently-resigned President, there have been great strides in attracting minorities to William and Mary. I expect that to continue under the new President.

My D is not a minority but has had minority roommates last year and this; they do very well and love the school.

While there are parts of Va that may still have racist populations, most of the places where one might live or work are highly diverse and even welcoming.
