im filipino but when filling out my college apps in the portion about ethnicity i check off the box for asian or asian-american or asian/pacific islander or whatever. anyways, ive heard that asians are no longer really considered minorities when it comes to college admissions; however, i dont really feel that filipinos fit into the whole "typical" asian (chinese, japanese, korean, etc) niche. i was born in the philippines, so on my applications perhaps that will reflect the fact that im not ur "traditional" asian, but will that really matter anyways? will i be treated as a minority when it comes to college admissions?

no u will be treated as a orm esp at top schools where many asian applicants apply

^ i agree with bingcold .... they tend to group asians of all types under one umbrella, as they do pacific islanders (even though there are certain pacific islanders out there who wouldn't even be considered asian... this fact still makes me bitter)

I would only hope that because you technically have a minority status, another non-minority w/better stats wont loose out to you.

....affirmitive action at its finest.

From the vibe that I got from your thread, i assume that is why you are asking

College apps handle ethnic identity in different ways. The Stanford and University of California apps do let you specify Filipino/Filipino-American.
