I have been considering minoring in something while in college. Now do u want to minor in something that compliments your major. Im majoring in microbiology so would I want to minor in chem or physics or something like that. Or could I minor in something unrelated to my major. I am considering economics because I feel the knowledge would be useful for investing in the stock market or maybe philosophy because I always found it interesting. So should my minor be something marketable or just something for fun?

Most people I know that have minors usually minor in something completely unrelated to their majors. Don’t decide to have a minor because you feel you have to, if there’s something that seems cool and you wanna take a bunch of courses in it and pursue it a bit but not entirely change your major, then minor in it.

Just pick something you like. Taking a handful of Econ classes isn’t gonna help you manipulate the stock market. I’m studying Econ and we don’t learn about the stock market at all, although sometimes it’s brought up in class. Sounds like you don’t want to study Econ, you want to study Business or Finance, which involves a lot of basic applied economic principles and other business gobbledygook :)

well im just talking studying something thats practicle and has benefits outside my future career plans

Um…not really. Your original post talked about whether you should study something practical or something for fun. People do both, just pick what you want to do whether you decide to do something that could be more practical or another subject that you really just want to study.

It’s called a “minor” because nobody cares about it, so go ahead and minor in whatever interests you.
