Miscellaneous Life Ramblings

@SevenDad @gardenstategal Is walking the High Line always safe (during the day)?
@payn4ward @buuzn03

At any hour that it is open, it’s as safe as walking in Disneyland. This is not the NYC as shown in The Deuce.

Thanks…I have had some experiences in NYC that lead me to ask that question. I didn’t realize HL has operating hours.

Yes. It opens daily at 7, and closes at 7 in the winter, 10 in the Fall/Spring, and 11 in the summer.

If the weather cooperates, High Line is a great place to watch and photograph sunset.
I felt very safe. It is just a park where people stroll and tourists take pictures.

Just read an article in The Atlantic about David Epstein’s new book “ Range”…there are interviews with many parents and topics that resonate with those of us on CC @ parenting, specialization in sports and interests, success, grit…I have not read the book yet, but would like to know if anyone else on here has read it. The author should have used CC for his research- he could have entire book series?

@ChoatieMom
Just heard about the West Point accident. ?

Yes, this is horrible news.

https://nypost.com/2019/06/07/west-point-cadet-killed-in-vehicle-accident-identified-as-christopher-morgan-of-new-jersey/

It is the second death since February, and the fifth cadet to die during our son’s time there. He pinged us early that morning to tell us he was safe (just leaving WP for a competition in MI), but our relief was this family’s tragedy. No words.

@ChoatieMom ,I am glad he is safe and texted you right away to let you know.
How horrible for all involved.

@SevenDad

On repeat in the doschicos’ household so far this summer is Alex Toth’s (of Rubblebucket) debut solo act album.

What new stuff is everyone else listening to?

@doschicos … you seem determined to drag @sevendad out of the woodwork!

Anyone else out there going to Tanglewood for July 3-July4 concerts? I told a young co-worker about the James Taylor concert and she said, “who is James Taylor?” ??

And likely crickets if you responded “Carly Simon’s ex-husband.” :wink:

An alternate response from those with R&B roots could have been the former lead singer from Kool & the Gang, James J.T. Taylor.

My young adult children certainly know who James Taylor is - and have seen him perform at a music festival. So, its not generational.

If your going to see him live, go purely for the nostalgia factor because he’s way past his prime in terms of his voice/singing quality.

Except he’s not playing Tanglewood, and is more commonly referred to as JT. And to the younger generation, JT will likely be confused with Justin Timberlake or if they’re really into hip-hop, as half of the duo City Girls.

Oh @skieurope you’re psychic! That is what I asked her! She didn’t know Carly Simon, either. But I’m heartened that you know both…maybe there is hope??

TBH, regardless of generation, if anyone knows anything about the arts, or pop music in general, or any American music of the last few decades, it’s hard to not have at least heard of James Taylor. It’s only been 2 years since he was a recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors.

My son just bought a bunch of posters to add to his dorm décor and I think all are of musicians who are either dead or so old they could be. :smiley: He was also recently very excited to buy a bunch of beat-up old LPs as if they are some kind of treasure and now wants a turntable.

Turntables are making a comeback, even amongst the younger crowd, and while digital download still prevail, many labels are releasing new music on vinyl again.
