Last month I was with a couple of friends when we were going to roll my friend's aunt's house. In the process, another one of my friends ran into her rail-fence and broke it. I was the one who drove to the place, although I didn't actually take part in it. The next morning, the cops show up (we weren't arrested) and within 3 weeks we were in the court room being charged with a class 2 misdemeanor for personal property damage. The case was continued until a month from now, and I'm extremely worried I'm not going to be able to get out of my small town and make something of myself because of an extremely stupid thing I done when I was 16. I am 3rd in my class of 127 with a 4.45 GPA, (I'm a junior) and school and my future matters more to me than anything in the world. So, all in all, I'm ready for the cold hard truth. Will this affect me making something of myself in the near future?

With enough ameliorating factors in place, it should not destroy your future, but discuss the matter with your guidance counselor and, above all else, do not lie about if asked on an application. It will probably be adjudged, and your record might well be expunged. At any rate, don’t allow it to distract you from your academic obligations, and continue doing your best.

What do you mean, you were going to “roll” your friend’s aunt’s house? Can you explain that?

Several top colleges (and not so top colleges) rate “Character/Personal Qualities” as Very Important - on the same level as “Academic GPA”, and “Rigor of secondary school schedule”. You may want to look for other friends and nighttime activities.

By roll you mean getting high off ecstacy? Or does “roll” have another meaning I’m not aware of haha. In any case, do not apply to schools until the case is over. There is a chance your record will be cleared because you are a minor. Once it gets cleared, you will not need to report it to schools.

I know someone who got into CAL with a felon, so I wouldn’t sweat it too much unless you plan applying to privates.
