Missed Deadline ... tear

I submitted my application and payment to Tufts before the New Year but saved my supplement till the last. Yesterday, honest to God, my cat bit the internet cable 30 minutes prior to midnight. We got a new cable and then I submitted my application, JUST 2 seconds after the deadline. Will my application still be accepted even though my supplement was sent in just past the time? Will it be treated much differently?

2 minutes 2 hours wont really make a difference if you’ve already submitted the common app portion. if you already have an account im assuming theyll give it to you

There’s a short grace period after the deadline. I’m not sure how long but it’s at least a few hours. You’ll be fine! :)

But the thing is, will my application be viewed in a negative light now?

I don’t think so. Admissions officers deal with this every year, and they expect this. They wouldn’t risk missing out on a great applicant because of two hours. Plus, admissions committees only receive your application materials, not a postmark date or anything. They won’t be able to differentiate between you and someone else who turned their app in late December, for example. I wouldn’t stress about, I think you’ll be fine. If you’re really concerned, you could always email the admissions office, but I really don’t think you have anything to worry about.

But like the postmark 1/05/10 is stamped on every page of the application submitted.

I submitted my app around 8pm on the 4th and it wasn’t downloaded until the 5th, so commonapp/supplement says downloaded 1/5/10 too. But all of the application materials are either printed out or scanned into their computer system. They won’t log on and see an actual date, I promise! If it makes you feel any better, a girl from my school submitted her Penn app a few minutes late last year and she got in.

Also, if you’re worried about it, just email them! I had all my stuff in on time except my recommendations - they were a few days late! I emailed the AdCom and they were super understanding. When I emailed Princeton about the same issue, they even said that they would happily take the supplement a few days late if there were a good reason to. I’d be very surprised if Tufts wouldn’t extend the same leniency.

I applied ED and the exact same situation happened (not the cat thing but a time zone confusion) on the common app it said 12:03am the day after, I was really worried so I emailed the school and they said it was totally fine, good luck!

I think it’s alright because I phoned them on the 5th to ask if I still could send my application and they told me it was fine, as long as I did it on the day.
