Missed Interview

Hi, I recently missed my college interview for the most ridiculous reason: my phone. My interview was at 1:00 yesterday. The day before my interview, I had a surprise party in which my phone basically disappeared amongst the kids for a couple of hours. I use my phone as an alarm clock, so it is imperative that the displayed time is correct. One way or another, the time got set back an hour, and so my alarm went off at 1:00 rather than 12:00. I received a call from my interviewer at 1:35, wondering why I wasn't there. She didn't have an angry tone to her voice or anything, but when I repeatedly said I'm Sorry, she didn't say "it's ok" or anything. We decided to schedule the interview for 1:00 today. Two questions.

1.) How much will missing an interview hurt me?
2.) How should I act during the rescheduled interview? Should I explain what happened to her or do you think she'll view it as an excuse?

Uhh honestly, I think it will hurt you. It makes you seem irresponsible and careless. Anyway, nothing you can do about that now. I think you should explain what happen so it's not like you just completely forgot, but don't blame it on your phone because it's really just your fault. Just make it seem like you can take responsibility for your actions.

sandyrun i honestly think it will not hurt you. dont worry about it. she was nice enough to reschedule the interview for you and IM SURE you said you were sorry a hundred times.

i your admission to penn does not rely on an alum interview. This interview is for you to gain some insight into penn and to ask questions any you might have about the school

If you explain, don't blame it on your phone or on 'these kids at my party' (besides the fact that you probably shouldn't mention the party...) Take full responsibility, say "I am so sorry, I didn't check to be sure my alarm would go off which was so stupid of me." and maybe make some joke about how you set two for your makeup interview. Blaming it on others, or even more so on your phone, just makes you look irresponsible.

If it makes you feel any better, I totally missed my Tufts interview and had to reschedule. Still got in. I think same applies here. Not a big deal -- just explain what happened, take responsibility, reschedule if possible, and don't fret too much over it. I doubt it will hurt you that much, if at all.

I do alumni interviews; I won't hold it against anyone if they forget as long as they apologize and show up on time for the rescheduled one and are otherwise polite. Forgetting twice, though, could signify a problem...

You use your phone exclusively...Like, you don't even consider glancing at a clock every now and then? I find that strange.

I know for a fact that on the Interview Form at some schools, there is a box to check if the applicant arrived on time.

Technically, you could be considered on time to your second interview despite being "late" to your first, so hopefully your interviewer will consider this.
