So I didn't realize it until today that I have to fill out a verification form for financial aid. The deadline for priority funding was May 1, which means I missed the deadline already. Will I lose a lot of financial aid because I didn't turn it in on time?

not sure, but what’s gonna happen is that you need to file an appeal. I thought I did the same thing, but I turned mine in on time. Do it SOON!!

Hi K***********, even though your documents will be considered late, they still need to be turned in so yes, please turn in your verification documents as soon as possible. We need pages 1 and 2 of the 2009 Federal Income Tax Return (1040/1040A/1040EZ) with your signature at the bottom of page 2 of your tax return, and your parent’s signature on their 2009 Federal Income Tax Return, on the “Sign Here” line along with Schedule E, if it was filed, and the Dependent Verification Worksheet [Financial Aid and Scholarship Forms 2010-2011](http://www.ucsd.edu/current-students/finances/financial-aid/forms/scholarship-forms-20102011.html). If you and/or your parents did not file tax returns, please indicate that on the worksheet in Sections 2 and 3.

You may scan and email your documents to us which is faster or you may fax them to (858) 534-5459 or you can mail or drop them off to our office.

You should also submit an email requesting a Late Funding Appeal and explain why you missed the deadline. Your appeal will be reviewed and if approved, your documents will be treated as on-time and you will be funded with priority UCSD funding.

Just turn it in as soon as possible and you should be fine. I would call the office or email them if you are worried or if you actually need an appeal.

Oh man, I sure hope they don’t deduct my financial aid award because of this. But thanks for your help simplyk and Schw1ng.

me too man, i just found out about this today, and since its sunday i cant even call the financial aid office to figure things out. im having an anxiety attack ;laksjdfl;kdsj.

if someone already called the office to figure things out, can you tell me what they told you? will your financial aid be deducted as a consequence of missing the priority deadline?? sigh… just when i thought i was done with the SATs, college applications, and even the AP tests… this happens. this sucks :P

I faxed them the required verification forms earlier this evening and also sent an email to the Financial Aid Office. Hopefully they respond to my email on Monday.

what did they say on the email?

They haven’t responded me back yet.

did they send you an email before the deadline that they are going to be asking you for the verification worksheet? I heard that some ppl received that, but i havnt, and thats why i didnt kno about it until recently.

Nope, I never received any sort of notice (email/phone call/mail) that asked for the verification worksheet. I only found out about this after I logged on to My TritonLink to check my Financial Aid information.

But hey, I just received a response from the Financial Aid office. Here’s what they said:

So this should be good news for us new students.

YESSSS!!! adl0816. i dont kno who you are, but i think im in love a;sldkfjs;aldkjf;lkdsajf;lkdsj

thanks for the good news buddy.

Haha no problem.

im in the same situation as adl0846 and thought some people would like to know what ive been doing to get out this mess sooo here it goes.

I sent in an e-mail to the UCSD financial aid office to ask if what I should do and they replied 3 days after telling me the same thing: send the documents, and submit a letter asking for an appeal.

“Your documents were due by May 1st and are now considered late. Late applicants will not be awarded UCSD Grant, UCSD Fee Grant, Blue and Gold Grant, SEOG, Perkins Loan, University Loan or Federal Work-Study. In order to be considered for these funds, you have to submit an appeal by following the steps below:
You may submit a separate email titled Late Funding Appeal to this email box explaining why you missed the deadline. Your Late Funding Appeal will be submitted for review. Our managers will begin reviewing the appeals in June or July. Financial aid for all on-time students are packaged before students with appeals are approved or denied. You will be notified by email once a decision has been made.”

The problem im having now is that the person that replied to me wrote that i must send in an e-mail in order to appeal; thats the only thing i didnt do. i sent my appeals through a fax copy and the original was sent via postal mail… so does this mean i have to send in ANOTHER email???

this is all very stressful sigh :[

I just faxed them my appeal letter. I doubt that this will be a problem.

i sent mine on time but how do you know if they received it? do they send you a mail? has anyone received it this early? sorry if I’m worrying about such pointless issue compared to the problems above =(

i asked them if they received them or not and they replied:

“We offer various methods to send in documents and requests. I see a note that states your appeal was received via fax on 5/14. There is nothing else you need to do. Thanks”

Oh my god, I just realized I never did this. How screwed am III? >_>

Just fax them the stuff now in addition to an appeal letter and hope for the best.

Hi, I only just found out about this a couple days ago, and now I’m through the whole process of emailing and writing the appeal. I’ll call them on Tuesday. But, my question is, did anyone get an email notification about this requirement? Because I check my email everyday, and I never got such a notice.

Blaze, I was never notified. I emailed them and told them this, finaid said that it was posted next to our financial aid awards list and that was our formal notification. =/ I’m so nervous, if I get my financial aid taken away, I will not be able to attend. Should I notify the finaid office of this? Or just wait for them to notify me?
