Calfornia, I’m going to call them on Tuesday when they reopen, just to get someone’s attention and let them know about my situation. If I get my funding taken away, I won’t be able to attend college either.

Btw, I asked a friend who’s a current student at UCSD right now, and she told me that when she was an incoming freshman, they didn’t have to send in anything for financial aid until midsummer! She’s a sophomore right now. So, does anyone know why they changed this, and when in the past two years?

At most, you’ll get a thousand dollar gift card for Burger King at UCSD.

Why is this happening to us?!?!?!?!?!? MOTHER FATHERksldajf;lksdjf

Turning it in today and hoping for the best.

I missed the deadline as well, and found out like about today. What to do? What do I write in my appeal?

you have to adress in the letter saying you want to appeal for a priority funding financial aid and a reason why you couldn’t meet the deadline.

if anyone got their appeal aproved (or rejected) can you guys let me know? thanks.

@californiaxo:
what the financial aid office said is contradictory cuz on http://www.ucsd.edu/current-students/finances/financial-aid/applying/fafsa.html they even wrote in bold letter format: “so check your e-mail often.” saying that they will notify via e-mail.

@xxmsp91 man, i’m really disappointed by the finaid office. they’re being so unhelpful, they dance around all of my questions.

@xxmsp91 “Additional documents deadline, May 1: Submit any additional documents to qualify for the best financial aid awards. Additional documents may include verifications, tax returns, and FAFSA processing follow-up.”
[Financial Aid Timeline for Entering Undergraduates](Financial Aid Timeline)

Don’t ever expect the financial aid office to be helpful – because quite frankly, they’re not. And don’t expect that you’ll get notifications or e-mails telling you when you need to do this and that. As a financial aid student, you’ll soon realize that you always have to be on top of your grants and loans and all the jazz that comes along with getting aid. Welcome to the adult world! But I get it, you’re all stressed right now. But honestly, from experience, I’ve seen my friends turn in FAFSA in May or additional documents near the end of summer and still get their aid. Don’t stress out or freak out too much right now because the office is busy packaging and doing continuing undergraduate packages.

Yeah, dude, they said they would email me… Never got the email. And now I’m in the same boat as most of you guys. I sent in my stuff late, and now I’m waiting to hear back from them. But I don’t want to sign up for Housing and spend $650 until I know I’m getting financial aid.

This is a complete mess. :/

Just wondering, did ppl who did not miss the verification deadline already recieve their official awards?

nope, which is disappointing…

out of all the UCs… is ucsd the only one that seems to be a bit behind when it comes to informing their students? Cuz other UCs seems to be done with the official awardings and such.

im pretty sure UCSD is aware that the housing contract is due on june 30th, but i dont want to send any confirmation on how im going to pay without being fully assured that im going to get financial aid… hmmmm.

I actually just received an email telling me to go look at my financial aid checklist, so I just found out yesterday that I needed to fill out the verification form. I have no idea how I missed such an important document. I tried calling the financial aid office to ask them about it but apparently the lines are too busy. I kinda need to know what’s gonna happen with my financial aid, it pretty much determines whether I’m gonna attend the college or not.

yea same here, well at least there are a bunch of us in the same boat.

^^ that was a reply to chrisemeshell

Do you think calling them to beg is going to affect any? =/ I’m sure many of us here are in the same boat as to not being able to attend without the financial aid (I can barely attend WITH the financial aid!) but somehow I think they’ve all heard it before. ><

I wrote a letter (about a page long) explaining exactly why I did not send everything in on time. It was very professional and to-the-point. My mother wrote one also, although I did not read what she wrote. My mother received an email from the director a few days later saying that they would consider my worksheet and tax forms as being “on time”. I have no idea what my mother said to them but I was very relieved to hear the news! I’d suggest this method if you also were late.

i havnt heard a thing from them even though i wrote a letter too… ***

californiaxo, can ur mom write a letter for me too???..

its really not fair how our college life is gonna be determined by how we write our letters… sigh

californiaxo, did your mom just write about your financial situation or something? Because I’m considering asking my mom to write one for me too. Hopefully, it’ll help some…
