Hi,

I am in my second semester as a post-bacc student, and I am applying for a pre-health committee interview for next month. As a part of the application, I need to list every class I have ever taken after high school, for AMCAS. I realized I didn't submit some of my transcripts to my current school, because they were over 10 years old, and I didn't receive any degree. I plan on reporting every class on my application for the pre-health interview, but since it is apart of the school I currently attend, could I be in serious trouble if I don't submit the transcripts to my school? Can I submit the missing transcripts now without getting penalized?

If you are in a degree program, you must provide copies of all of your transcripts. Not knowing how your post-bacc program is structured, none of us can advise on this. Is there anyone you can ask? Chances are they will just ask you for copies to stick in your file.

The last time I had to track down copies of everything, I ordered five of each, and I’ve got the sealed envelopes in my filing cabinet, so you do have my sympathy!

Well, it’s not a degree program, it’s a certificate program, if there’s a difference. I’m already in my second semester, but only sent transcripts from the school I received my Bachelor’s Degree. I didn’t do so well my first round of school. So I transferred to another undergraduate school, performed much better, and graduated. When I first went to school it was about 10 years ago and I spent most of my time withdrawing from classes. Now I am in this program, doing exceptionally well, and now I will have to report every class I took. If I don’t, I could run the risk of being blacklisted by medical schools. The problem is, the school I am currently enrolled in does not have all of my transcripts (though I was accepted) and the pre-health science committee will be conducting the initial interview. I have no problem with submitting the transcripts that I initially did not, but I don’t want to get kicked out of my current program, or worse, expelled if I present these transcripts to my records and registration office now. I’m not sure if this committee will realize I didn’t submit all of my transcripts, and if they verify enrollment, I’d rather them see what I submitted to the AMCAS application. Will I get in trouble if I submit transcripts after being in school for almost a year?

I was almost booted from a post-graduate certificate program when a routine audit of student files found the record of one course transfered to my undergraduate college. We are talking about 6 semester hours from thirty (yes 30) years before. All I had to do to fix it was have an official transcript sent from the original college and everything was OK.

Pop by the registrar’s office, and tell them that you’ve begun to worry about your ancient transcripts because you aren’t sure if you sent everything. Chances are that some of the transferred courses from your first college show up as credits on your final transcript. This will give you an opportunity to sort things out with the registrar. It really is mostly a book-keeping issue for them. The next time they are up for accreditation review, they want all of the files nice and neat.

Good luck!

Thanks, I’ll do that.
