It's decision time, and my top two choices are Florida and Missouri. Right now, I'm leaning towards Missouri. I'd be part of two pretty cool scholarship programs, Missouri has impressed me with their recruiting effort and the journalism school is really good. Florida has a better college overall, and is supposed to be better academically, along with weather and stuff like that. However, their journalism program just seemed a little small and sorry when I visited. Plus, I haven't been getting any attention from them as I make my decision. Does CC have any advice?

Florida is HOT!!! not so cold like Missouri. :D

Missouri actually does have a really good journalism program. There are some majors where “contacts” may not mean as much as others. I’m thinking that journalism might and it might be worthwhile to make the effort to seek out a top-notch journalism school.

Ohio University is also highly regarded in journalism.

I’m biased, so I’ll always say you should go to UF if you can. I do know that there are some great opportunities for journalism majors at UF, especially with the Alligator and the Gainesville Sun (owned by the New York Times). The Alligator is regarded as one of the best college newspapers in the country.

In my opinion, when it comes to Journalism, it really doesn’t matter how good the program is compared to how good academically the University is. Of course, it does depend on what you are looking for. If you are looking for a good Journalism program or a good school (aka. you say " I went to so and so University").

Don’t forget that there is also the social part of the college experience and UF is by far more sociable (I’m not talking just about crazy parties—that’s actually a minor reason why it is such a sociable environment).

Well, now that I made a case for UF, good luck no matter which school you pick.

As a grad of both schools in journalism, I have to say that they both offer a solid journalism program. Missouri is less provincial in at least one one way, however, with a greater number of students in journalism who come from all over the country, and many international students. There is a lot of money floating around for scholarships. Florida is closer to civilization, shopping, the ocean, even though Gainesville is as miserable in the summer as Columbia is in the winter. You’ll probably have more fun in Gainesville. Missouri is still the mid-west, and rather slow about things. But people are more likely to mean what they say and they don’t expect you to have to ask twice.

clak, from my understanding, UF and Mizzo are both top 10 journalism schools. I’m not so sure how “sorry” UF’s program is.
