Missouri State MT April 1 decision???

Hey all you knowledge people. Quick question about Missouri State MT. My niece has been accepted academically and artistically, however, she was notified today she had to make a decision by 4/1 or lose her spot. What’s up with that? Thought National College Decision Day was May 1? She still has an audition 4/30 at UCF and is still waiting on 5-6 decisions and aid packages. Can they really do that?

Missouri State is a member of the NACAC. I would push back to the admissions office first, not the MT department.

@MamaBear2020 Was she recently accepted to Missouri MT? Just curious if this was a while back or recent and now they are asking for commitment by April 1 with only 2 weeks to make a decision.

@FROG65 She was just recently accepted (auditioned at Chicago Unifieds and found out like the end of last week) and I don’t think it was just the scholarship offer they are threatening to pull, but her place in the MT program. My sister and niece are making a road trip to Missouri State next week to check it out and hopefully convince them that while she is interested, she needs time to evaluate all her options.

@MamaBear2020 - did you reach out to the school about the date?

Did they send an email or a letter by snail mail? My D hasn’t heard anything from and she too auditioned at Chicago unifieds.

We had an issue with the April 1 deadline as well and wrote to the head of MT sept and asked for an extension. It was granted

I would first reach out to the MT program and politely ask for an extension. If that fails, then get in touch with your admissions counselor or someone in the admissions department and ask for help. As referenced in previous posts, NACAC Guidelines stipulate a May 1 date for all offers of admission and scholarships including departmental admissions, such as MT programs. I think sometimes MT programs use these deadlines to see who is still interested in their offer, especially with the rise of “ghosting” among Millennials as a preferred form of rejection.

NACAC is being investigated by the Department of Justice Anti-Trust division and has therefore suspended enforcement of the May 1st deadline. I created a new post about it. Bob is a great guy, I would suggest reaching out to him if you are torn and can’t commit by the deadline you have been given. ~VT
