I recently sent in my UBC application and just realised that I had a few mistakes in the essay section. I did it in Google docs so I didn’t see the errors and didn’t think to proof-read it the last time before I clicked send (because the latest version was the one my counselor edited) I’m very worried that this is ruin my chances of getting in as they might think that I’m careless. I sent the application on January 10th and the deadline is January 15th, I think I have time before the admissions review my application. Should I send them an email of the corrected version and tell them to ignore my original one?
BTW, the mistakes are editing errors. For example, I meant to say ‘it is’ but edited out ‘is’ or forgot to put a full stop and made a typo. There are three mistakes in total. I know these are relatively minor but it really interrupts the flow of my essay.
No, that is not worth emailing about. They will absolutely not throw out your app becasue of a few tiny mistakes. Put the thought out of your head. If anything, emailing about tiny errors like that will annoy the rep, and you don’t want to do that.
For an example of errors worth emailing about, how about this? My D submitted an essay, but It was six weeks before she realized that the essay she submitted was filled with random exclamation and question marks all over the place, along with weird line breaks, etc… She also forgot, for the first and last time, to review the essay before she submitted. She did email the rep, attaching the corrct version of the essay. The rep was fine about it, and she got in.
I would say the vast majority of essays will contain minor errors of punctuation or grammar. A misplaced comma or two will not doom you.
@Lindagaf@happy1 Thanks for your replies, they were really helpful. I actually debated whether to email them for days and tend to overthink the consequences. I just hope they look over the minor mistakes.
