Mistake? Need some advice

Received a Phone call from the College in regards to a mistake they made. Last Spring Semester I took a two classes that was listed as a 3 credit hour class. I received my pell and loans as a half time student, but they called today saying that one of them was only suppose to be listed as a 2 credit class, which dropped me down under the half time student mark for my Pell/loans, and they are saying that in order to fix this mistake I now owe them money. I already finished the classes and had the grades in the books. My question is, can a college go back after the class is completed and change the credit/hour amount that was originally listed? Should I be responsible for this mistake? Need some helpful advise!!

Is this a for-profit college?

I really don’t think you are responsible; do you have the original unit information from the syllabus or school description?
If you are at a for-profit college, you’re probably stuck.

Where was it incorrectly listed? Course catalog, portal after you registered, final semester transcript?

It is a non-profit. The credit hours were listed in the course catalog, in the registration, as well when the class ended it showed up on my transcript as 3 credit hours. They are coming back now after two months saying it should have only been 2 credits, and that I will have to pay for the mistake because of the way pell/loans were filed.

Sounds like you have a case for the school to absorb that. It was their series of errors. Talk to your Dean.

I second the idea that the school needs to pick up the tab. This was clearly their fault, and it is a huge mistake. They should pay the difference in Pell and loans.
