Mistake on Essay

I submitted my essay and I now realize it had a typo.

It was “xxxxxxxx”, xxxxx

instead of

“xxxxxxx,” xxxxx

But it was not a cite or someone speaking, simply air quotes.

How major is this?

Or is it actually not a typo? And yes, I proofread many times prior to this.

—I cannot change it, as I already sent a revision of it once, for something else.

If this is a mistake you made consistently throughout your essay, then admissions might notice that, look for other mistakes, and it could hurt.

If you only did it once, I wouldn’t worry about it – they know that people make little mistakes like that all the time.

I don’t think it’s really an error, actually! The comma can be placed inside or outside the quotation mark.

Seriously?

I hate to break it to you but your bear-my-soul essay will be read in forty seconds. Your mistake won’t be noticed.

braids, it is an error. The comma needs to be inside the quotation mark. Semi-colons go outside.

They read 30,000 each year… like they’ll notice

Do not worry about it. You could still get in. It will not ruin you. Be optimistic!

This is such a relief. Thank you very much!

^Erm, hate to break it to everyone above, but Brown students are actually perfect. Beautiful, well-dressed, clear skinned, gorgeous hair, flawless, detailed and inquisitive minds, and bastions of good moral character. Didn’t you know that every test we ever take is always a 100%, because we make NO mistakes? And our admissions officers are perfect too: they can scan an essay in 5 seconds, and know every intimate detail about you, your capabilities, and where you will end up in 10 years. That’s the exact reason BrownFML is filled with students saying things like “Today I was perfect. As always. MLIG”
