The college I'm going to is a liberal art school, and on my I-20 they've written my major as ENGINEERING, when my major is going to be ASTROPHYSICS. I live in India, and I went to the VFS and the lady there said I need to get a new I-20 issued. But the lady in charge of the I-20s at my college is EXTREMELY irresponsible and doesn't reply to a single one of my e-mails. I'm very worried about not getting my visa, due to this mistake, even though it's not that big a deal. What can I do? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Since she is not replying to your emails, why don't you call her?

But I was wondering that if you are going to a LAC, shouldn't the major be initially written as general studies? I maybe wrong though.

Changing the major on your I-20 is not a big deal, and you can wait until you actually get into the States to do it. (I got a new I-20 with a change of my name half-way through the first semester and did not run into any problems.) I-20s are set up so that it is easy to change information after you have been issued a visa. And honestly, if the I-20 says you are going to major in engineering, just say at your interview that you want to major in engineering. Nobody will be able to tell that you are lying.

DONT worry..
when i first came here,,,my major is accounting,,but they wrote it liberal art&science.. and IT'S OK.. the imigration people WONT care about your major..and you can change it after you're arrive in the US.
as long as your name, address, your nationality, the school name, and all the very important information are correct..you're good to go.

Thank you so much, everyone.

ajayc: No, strangely enough, everyone attending my college has a major written on their I-20s. And yes, I tried calling her last night. Turns out she's away and won't be back until next week.

So I guess it's wait and watch, then.

Thanks, you guys. I do hope everything turns out alright.

I also have a problem with my I-20, it says that I need english language course, but I have already sent my toefl result and they said it was a mistake, and I will be starting academic courses straight away. Will it be a problem? because I didn’t have enough time until my appointment for the F1 to change the I-20. Will it be a problem at immigration? or can I change it when Im there? (United States)

I really require a reply to my question as soon as possible so I do request you all to help me out. I had applied to University Of Southern Mississippi for my Pre- Med program and I was sent the I-20 with my Place of Birth listed as my home country which according to my passport was not where I was born.
For Example:
On my I-20 Place of Birth was given as China when it was actually Kuwait on my passport while my Country of Orgin is printed as Kuwat itself.
However the problem is that I had applied for my Visa and got accepted with the wrong I-20, even the VO didnt realise it and am due to get my passport in a couple of days.
I had only realised it after my Visa, What do I do as of now?
PLEASE HELP ME GUYS!

Lol I didnt even know my I20 stated my major.

Visa people genuinely care about two things:

1) your ties to your home country

2) if you’re able to finance whatever you’re doing in the states

And a strong visa background would also help.

Everything else they don’t even read into.

vienneselights, what do you recomend I do because they did take a copy of my I-20, would they print the Place of Birth on my Student Visa?

Your student visa probably won’t display your place of birth. (Mine doesn’t, but it was issued 5 years ago.)

Errr, no.

Your place of birth is stated in your passport.

So it ought to be a port of entry problem right?
I have email the scholl asking them on what should I do so as soon as I get a reply I’ll posted up. Going for another Interview would be Insane for me
Thanks alot, Will post anyother reply soon.
