I put the family size number instead of household size number. There are 3 people living in the same house I live in and I put 5 but the other 2 live somewhere else. How can I fix this? Who do I contact? Any suggestions?
Is this on a financial aid application form or on your application for admission?
IF you filed through the SUNY Portal, check your application status to see if it has been sent to the campus yet. If it has been sent to the campus, on Monday, have your GC contact the colleges in question to make the changes (this can be crucial if you are applying to EOP). Your counselor will also be able to log on to counselor connect to see if your application has been released to the school yet.
If you applied using the Common App, just wait a day or 2 and then contact the college directly (or have your GC contact the admission office directly) to make the update (again, crucial if you are applying for EOP/HEOP).
Okay, never mind. I put the right amount of household size, I was just confused. However, I messed up on the income part I THINK. I put the income of one of my brother(im dependent on him). I didn’t put the income of my other brother because I thought, why should I? I am not dependent on him and he doesn’t pay for me? Am i wrong for doing that? Should I still change the income? I called one of the colleges, they said to include the income and send a letter along saying that the other brother doesn’t contribute to any of my needs. I am still confused. They have been sent. I am applying for EOP and can I contact the colleges for changes if I have to make any or does it have to be my GC?
Is your brother your legal guardian? Where are your parents?
No, hes not but I am still dependent on him. My parents are dependent on my brothers as well. Mom is dependent on the one I am dependent on and Dad is dependent on the other brother.
your brother is NOT your legal guardian? If that is the case, I don’t believe you can use his income and assets at all on your FAFSA.
FAFSA dependency rules are NOT the same as tax dependency rules. You would need to have your brother as your legal guardian to use him on your FAFSA form.
Where do your parents live? Do they have any income?
Your parents would have to provide their income and assets. If your parents have no income the school s going to want to know how they are meeting their bills and nay ask for the income and assets of every working person in your household for EOP
I called the fafsa people. They said to put $0 for anything regarding parents and led me to this space where I can put how much money I am given annually by people other than my parents. So I am good with fafsa but I am still confused about my SUNY. Do I have to include my other brothers income in the SUNY application even though I am not dependent on my other brother? I only put the income of the brother I am dependent on and in the household size, I included everyone.
@thumper1 My parents live together with my brothers. We all live together but only my brothers work. Fafsa is cleared, I talked about it with the customer service of Fafsa. However, my SUNY question remains obscure.
The EOP process is very in-depth. Each school will contact you and let you know what they need. Since you previously posted this question the answer if ace you remains unchanged.

it will be the EOP office that will ask for all of the additional information
So I don’t need to call the SUNY people and ask them to change income?
Why don’t you just call SUNY and ask them about this?
You have not been selected for EOP yet. People just started filing the FAFSA. It is going to be another 2/3 weeks before they reach out to you. Keep in mind that it is a 2 step process where you must be both academically and financially eligible. Have you receive andy notification from any schools that you have made it through the first hurdle for EOP and asking you for your financial information?
SUNY EOP will contact you and request the information that they need. I told you on the other thread the information that you need to gather. You will need a copy of the IRS non-filers statement for your parents. (At some schools, if you do not have this, they are not even going to entertain your EOP application). You must also start gathering information as to how your parents eat everyday since you state that they receive no services (SS, PA, food stamps or housing).
Have your counselor reach out to the EOP office at the schools where you have applied (they are not going to speak to you as the student; they will simply tell you to wait until you hear from them. They will give your counselor a more detailed answer).
I will call them tomorrow because they are closed for the holidays. @sybbie719 when you say “You will need a copy of the IRS non-filers statement for your parents. (At some schools, if you do not have this, they are not even going to entertain your EOP application).” How do I get that IRS non-filers statement for my parents if they never worked in the U.S? If I don’t have that because my parents didn’t work, is it fair to not even look at my EOP application?
Okay never mind. I guess that’s for why they are not filing taxes like you said here, “Your parents will have to get a copy of the IRS non-filers statesment to prove that they are not required to file taxes.” Sorry, I was just confused.
Want to walk me through the IRS non-filers? how to do it? when you say, “You must also start gathering information as to how your parents eat everyday since you state that they receive no services (SS, PA, food stamps or housing).”
I could just show the colleges the tax files of my brothers where my parents and me are counted as dependents right?
No, you will first have to show your parents information.
Do your parents have a social security number or tax id number? IF yes, then they must submit this form to the IRS
https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4506t.pdf
Then they will ask you for the tax information from both of your brothers. Your parents will still have to file the FAFSA using all 000000000 in order for you to get federal or state aid. If they do not file the FAFSA, no EOP for you.
When do they submit that form, before or after filing fafsa? I am almost done with fafsa, just waiting for FSA ID confirmation.
And I am basically filling that out to show as a proof that they earn no money right?
