I received a B- (0.1% away from a B) this year in Pre- Calculus. I’m a Junior who hopes to attend the University of Michigan next year and I am in state. Is this going to ruin my chances? I want to go to their business school. I still have a 3.95 GPA in the semester though.
I should tell you the reason:
I had a B+ in the class and then I retook a test (we get 1 retake and it’s the week OF exam week) and now it’s a B-. Exam didn’t bring it up. I was too busy studying for exams that I didn’t re-cover the info for that test well.
For UMich B- and B+ are the same. You should recalculate image your uwGPA without subgrades to assess your chance at UMich. Do you have a test score already? At least post your PSAT.
I took the Junior PSAT and got a 1280, but I know what i did wrong and got tutoring. Had a 720 in reading, but grammar brought me down, I’m being tutored the grammar section. On math I made stupid mistakes and took too long, I’m getting tutored for math as well.
Additionally, UofM cares about your unweighted GPA? What about AP classes?
GPA and course rigor are both considered “very important”. Basically, you need to take some AP classes while keeping your GPA up. Your PSAT suggesting a low predicted SAT score. You have limited time to bring narrow down the gap in test score. I would recommend students to prepare for the standardized test in the summer before junior and have at least one official score by this time of junior year. You are a little bit behind other strong potential applicants.
