MIT 2014 RD Discussion Thread

Less than 24 Hours to go!!!

Hahaha Sorry. I couldn’t resist :D

UGH I was rejected

…from Caltech.

I’m kind of curious to see how well CC predicts MIT acceptance/waitlist/rejection, based on the mini-resume’s posted in chance threads. Like, have 20 people post their information, and then people post who they think was admitted/waitlisted/rejected, like a sort of mass chance. I think it could end up saying a lot about chance threads in general.

Anyone else interested in trying this?

why not :D

I mean as like a mass-chance thing, like a separate topic. It needs to be at least pseudo-empirical.

Accepted by Caltech.

@kenhungkk wow, congratulations, thats a good sign. did you apply for fin. aid at caltech?

I will apply next year because im a junior. Good luck to all of you!

got in caltech… love the weather… but MIT (until i get rejected tomorrow) is my number 1!

@ heinochus
Something like that exists on mychances-dot-net. You create your profile and it gives you a prediction by percent based off their database and other stuff. Also, members can predict each others acceptances/rejects/waitlists too.

I got rejected from caltech, my hopes for MIT got minimized after seeing the decision… But I keep telling myself that it is possible I wasn’t accepted because I am an international AND applying for financial aid, thats why I am asking you guys who got in. Did you apply for aid? :P

@ aznjunior: does mychances account for EC’s, or just numbers? What I’m interested in here is how people, as a group, people applicants “holistically”.

EDIT: Also, just to see how CC users do, specifically.

Even if there is a correlation with the chance threads, which there very well might be to some extent, you cannot bluntly say chances work. The extent to which they predict is worse than what a person himself knows for SURE what he’s worth. You have a better chance at ‘chancing’ someone from his essays–and even that won’t work too well. Applications are a package, and are meant to be like that.

The reason I have not given up on MIT is because in MIT we trust. It’s written on our bills. Don’t let me down, I have faith in my 0.01% acceptance rate. Why did you wake up so early Ken? And why is our clocks wrong? It says 10:39 when it should be 9:39

mychances considers EC’s but it isn’t very good at differentiating which awards are the most prestigious

Got 2.2% chance of getting accepted by MIT (**************). Idk if I should be happy or not.

Lmao hahaha. That is such a good luck, guy

Good luck to everyone. Especially me.

Hey, what’s wrong with my last post??? Another “conspiracy”?
