MIT 2016 hopefuls

I think because people think MIT = Science, when they see someone with visible accomplishments in science/math, they think MIT is a shoo-in. Even some teachers at my school have told me that. I think the ideal of fit/balance is what people unfamiliar with MIT don’t account for.

I sent my sat score which was low !!!

And my question is would my chance of getting into MIT get lower even if I send a high TOEFL score??

Thank you,

Thank you,

My school has had fifteen applicants rejected from MIT in the last 6 years, and none accepted. All these people seemed like shoo-ins to the people who would say that, so now they just say “Good luck”.

They’ll only consider the test that will make you look the best.

Wow, cool thank you I was really worried about that

Yeah, I get a similar reaction from a lot of my friends who aren’t applying too selectively. I hear, “Oh, you’ll definitely get in.” You know, it’s nice, but unfortunately gets my hopes up a little. Which may very well be the least helpful thing. Woo.

^ Ugh, I remember those comments annoying me so much as an applicant. MIT is so hard to get into, and lots of people Admissions would love to have end up getting turned away. A lot of people seem to not realize this.

Any other Siemens RF’s on this thread?

I think I agree with someone earlier in this forum… No matter what the answer is, on Saturday morning at 9:17 (California time) I’ll be brought to my knees with disbelief hahaha. I’m not doing so well so far getting through this week -_-" thoughts anyone?

9:17!? Lucky!! I’m planning to stay up really really late on Friday evening so I can sleep until 12  All of my friends say everything work out in the end, no matter where you end up going. I just can’t explain how much I love MIT and how disappointed I will be with even a deferral. My entire high school career has pretty much evolved around maintaining good credentials (while doing what I love) so that maybe I would have a chance.

germfreak, I’m jealous of you. I have layout for my school’s newspaper Friday evening and all day Saturday. Hooray for waking up at 7am and checking the website in front of the whole staff :c

-nervous nervous nervous-

Good luck to you!

I’m going to be at home, and will receive the news at 10:17AM. I probably won’t be able to sleep the night before T_T

aww guys! good luck! I hope all of the people that are really passionate about MIT get in! I’m officially going crazy. I keep checking decisions.mit.edu to see if MAYBE theres some tiny chance that MIT accidentally put the decisions on already. Nope, they didn’t and they aren’t going to. :frowning: 12/17 12:17 please please please hurry up!

10:17 for me too! I don’t have anything to do that day, so I either need to find some way to distract myself (other than staring at the clock) or try and sleep until then.

I’m going to be a Christmas party when decisions come out and I won’t get home until like 7!!! And I’m not checking while I’m there because I don’t want to be rejected in front of everyone!!!

I’m planning on setting my alarm for 12:10-ish so that I don’t have a long time to agonize in the morning.

It’s really sad that most of us, no matter how passionate we are, will be deferred. :/

I have solved the mystery, ladies and gentlemen!

they choose 12/17 because that is the tan(89.95293), duh. i can’t believe that no one has figured this out yet.

also, 1217 °C is the melting point of Cobalt(II) fluoride.

this is why the comMITtee choose 12/17, right MITchris?

It is well-known that cobalt(II) fluoride is the chemical mascot of MIT.

Wait, seriously Mollie?
