MIT acceptance

So I have completed my interview last week, and both the interviewer and I thought it went great. However, my weighted GPA is about a 4.1 andy SAT score is a 1370. My essays were well written and creative. Do my interview and short answer questions improve my chances of being accepted? Just know that I am the first generstion in my hispanic family to go to college.

Your stats are very low for MIT. Your SAT is almost 200 points below their 25th percentile, so that right there puts things in perspective. Being first gen and Hispanic are hooks, but there are likely to be stronger stat applicants with similar hooks. Without high level awards or accomplishments, MIT does not typically go fishing in the 1300s SAT pool. Take your chances, but have a backup plan or two as well.

Based on what I’m seeing, I concur with @Groundwork2022. You’re always welcome to apply, but the stats really don’t look very competitive for MIT. Even so, you did great. You have a ton of college options!

When I was at MIT I only met one student who admitted to having less than 1400 on the SAT. He never graduated, and I am pretty sure that he did not finish freshman year. The last I heard (which was years later) he had never returned to any university.

I tend to agree with the posts above that your stats are low for MIT, but that there would be MANY other universities where you will be accepted and where you could do very well.

dont listen to the h8rs, u got this bro

People are not hating the OP.

MIT is a great college but it does move at a fast pace and can be a challenge for even the best student. Not performing at the level of your peers can be very frustrating and have definite grade implications.

It is better to go to a college where one can succed than always be struggling. The OP’s stats do seem low for MIT and they might do better elsewhere.

What are your extracurriculars?

@GeoStudent8 If you don’t mind, could you update us on if you got in?
