MIT Application clarifications

Hi,

I am in the process of applying and wanted to run this by and see what the expectation is. I did not see documentation cover this.

  1. Our school district permits us to take some high school level classes in 8th grade so I was wondering how should I put that into the courses section? The pull down limits to 9th grade only. These are all listed on my high school transcript. Should i slot them as blank year or as 9th?

  2. Also in Part 2, Section 7, it asks for what grade I took chemistry, physics, calculus, etc. If I took both AP and honors versions of those classes, which year should I put (honors is the first step to take the AP class in our school) ?

On a side note, MIT admissions blog it shows ACT writing to be not required, but the application seems to require it? Is there a minimum writing score that they look for?

Thanks a lot.

I had the same issue with 8th grade courses. I didn’t put them in because 8th wasn’t in the dropdown. However, I asked my counselor to put them on my transcript, so I think it should be fine if you don’t list them.
For your second question, I just put the first year I took them (so Honors Chem, etc).

Colleges are only interested in how you spent your last four years of high school, so courses and extra-curriculars that you were busy with earlier than 9th grade shouldn’t be included.

Include your writing score if they are asking for it, but don’t worry. It won’t affect your acceptance.
