MIT Class of 2021 Applicants

I’m actually kind of proud I got deferred and not rejected

deferred

deferred but got into Brown ED yesterday so I wasn’t too distressed lol

I just feel the need to share some results. Deferred.

glad I’m not the only deferred. Relieved to see other super talented kids getting deferred

Deferred

Accepted!

deferred rip three more months of waiting! not as disappointed as i thought i’d be though (although now i get to waste 500000 bucks on more college apps). everyone i know who got in is extremely qualified and absolutely deserves it–hopefully i’ll have better luck during rd!

@MITChris – I wish we got more feedback than just ‘deferred’, which just throws me in with 70% with everyone else. I know it would’ve been a lot of work for thousands of applicants but how does attaching an excerpt of the readers’ existing notes sound? Thanks.

i can see why you’d like that, but it’s not something we’re going to do. oftentimes there aren’t things for a student to improve or not. it just takes time and a new context (i.e., RA) for a case to develop.

The anxiety is already getting to me, and there are 3 months until decisions. I’d say 68% of the ~350 students of my high school know that I’m applying to this “Crazy nerd school” in Massachusetts, and I probably get asked 2 times every day if I got in.
“No, I won’t know until 3/14.”
I want to be excited for all those admitted, but that means one less potential spot for me.
I guess it’s just a waiting game; I hope to see all admitted students in the fall.
Anyone have any helpful words?

@ManaManaWegi

Yes. I have helpful words.

@MITChris - What is the acceptance rate of the deffered applicants?

@MITChris Okay, thanks anyway for responding! I can’t believe I already can’t wait until Pi Day!
@ManaManaWegi I may not have helpful words, but I have a similar situation!

@chessant2014 Honestly, I just hope the right decisions are made, whatever that means.

My son got accepted. @MITChris for your hard work.

I would also like to know if there is a higher acceptance rate for deferred than rd applicants @MITChris

@Hailumu I would assume that the acceptance rates of deffered applicants would be lower than the acceptance rates of just RD applicants due to the best of the EA students already being accepted.

Do you think getting deferred by MIT is a good sign I overall have a good application? Hearing back from UMich College of Engineering in a few days, and I’m hoping my MIT deferral mean that I have a strong application

@SandrewP I means that MIT wasn’t sure that there were going to reject you, so, yeah, I’d say that’s good. There is a large range of defers though. According to MITChris, new RD context can make new cases for applicants.
