@Vikheim Life goes on, man. My partner dumped me today AND I got rejected. Not a good day.
@momlurker When does she come home to put you out of your misery? Good luck. Congrats to all who got in.
Is it just me or mymit hasnt updated to an admitted student website or something? does this mean my acceptance was a mistake. help
@CrimsonZa go to decisions mit edu… u ll see ur decisions… may be they dont update mymit
I was able to see my decision but my mymit hasn’t changed. My friend who got in early’s mymit changed.
anyone experiencing this?
@GeoffWii2 She will be back on shore on Friday. My guess is that the presence or absence of a tube in the mailbox may be our first indication.
Anyone know when MIT started the tube tradition? Alums as recent as '08 don’t recall them.
Since at least 2007, but for awhile there, it was EA only: http://mitadmissions.org/blogs/entry/early_action_versus_regular_ac
@MITChris Can International students apply through EA? Do all of them get deferred? I found an international student who applied through EA but had an interview in November. I had to struggle to get my EC to respond (and he never did) in February.
The tubes are a nice touch. My husband thinks they may be a little pretentious (like, “we’re so cool, we send tubes,”) but I think it fits in the same class as the brass rat. Unique so it stands out, and maybe just on the edge. Back in 1988, when I got my EA acceptance letter (in the dinosaur ages when email and internet didn’t really exist), I was checking the mail box everyday. I remember I was so excited to get accepted that I slipped on the ice in the driveway and bumped my head. My head recovered. Very exciting. Congrats to everyone, even those who didn’t get in - you are at such an exciting time of life, your world is just opening up with infinite possibilities. Your college experience is just the start. Go for it!
Rejected
@Yashas - they can apply EA
@momlurker - they used to contain posters. but we stopped sending posters a few years ago when our artist changed jobs and now they’re just favored anachronisms like idk the floppy button being the ‘save’ sign in word or whatever
I got rejected and actually did not care at all. Probably means this wasn’t the right place for me lol
Congrats to everyone that got in!! Others, I feel you…
The rejection felt like nothing at all. I opened the link, saw ‘I’m sorry’, let out a mini sigh, and went back to sleep.
I either don’t care much about MIT or I’m just professional at handling rejection.
@neba2016 Congrats! I’m an international student so that’s inspiring
@UnhealthyAdmissionAddiction We here! Prowling around like a tiger at the edge of the ring like, let me in! (or out. depending on the tiger)
Finally a huge congrats to everyone!!! Accepted or not, you won half the battle. (someone better say this to me next year)
Peeps - has anyone who got rejected/WL/accepted received an email yet?
@anonstem I have. Accepted student
Fake
Hi guys! I was a deferred applicant recently rejected to MIT, and I just wanted to thank all you on college confidential for all your help and guidance that you showed to other students.
But, before I close the book on MIT until maybe graduate school, I was just wondering about how MIT factors maker portfolios into its admission process.
I read this article about Maker Portfolio and the gender imbalance associated with them (http://web.mit.edu/fnl/volume/291/peterson_abelson.html), so I just find it odd how couple of girls from my school, including myself, submitted Maker Portfolios but none of us were even waitlisted. We are all students with good SAT scores, internships, etc.
In my case, I submitted both a Maker Portfolio and an Art Portfolio, so I was hoping if anyone could provide some closure to me and many other female engineers in my school as to why this may be the case.
I know it isn’t a straightforward answer, but anything would be nice as advice for future applicants from my school. Thank you very much and best of luck to all MIT’s 2021 students!
